FAO: Mac Users - OpenOffice
« on: October 18, 2008, 08:40:01 AM »
Hi Mac users
In another thread (somewhere) OpenOffice was being discussed and it was said X11 was needed for the version (which was) current at the time.
However today I downloaded v3 for my Windows (and will do Linux soon) PCs and there appears to be a native Mac version

Apologies if I am wrong and you still need X11

Whoops! I saw this ages ago (Ahem, over two years ago!) and forgot to reply.

If you wish to use Open Office on the Mac, you do indeed need X11 – which gives a Unix environment in which Open Office can launch.

However you can use NeoOffice – which is also a free download – in the native Mac OSX (any cat: Tiger, Leopard, etc).

This creates .odt and .ods files (etc as appropriate) which will open in any flavour of Open Office.

NeoOffice will also open (and save as) .doc .xls (etc as appropriate).
