Volvo Citybuses
« on: March 12, 2010, 10:08:09 PM »
Noted today at rear of First Northampton garage in addition to the withdrawn Dennis Lances and Olympians was 38083 F83XBD and although vit was not visible have not seen 38087 LSU717 lately.

Does anyone know if these two buses are withdrawn and also is 66301 still at Northampton as I thought it was officially transferred here from Leicester

66301 is still at Northampton, i turned it down on the 4 on Tuesday for 38121. however it appears that 66970 has gone back to Leicester again, as i haven't seen it about for a couple of weeks (I'm sure it'll be back again next time something packs up, lol).

38083 i believe was withdrawn by Northampton and sent over to Wyvern (or what ever they call themselves this week), however they didn't like it apparently, so was sent back and 38087 sent over in its place (according to a first driver earlier this week).

There are now only Four Volvo's still in service at Northampton, 38097/99/121 and the East Lancs bodied 38122.

On the Subject of 38122, this now see's regular use after being used on next to nothing except the 392 school's route, however i don't know if First have lost this route or whether the recently accquirred coach (20514) is booked for it, 38122 hasn't had its destination displays reprogrammed for a long time and yesterday was photographed by myself at Greyfriars operating on the 22, but showing the now defunct 27 St Giles Park, this happened with the Solo's for about two weeks when the 22 transferred to First from Milton Keynes Metro early last year.

I'm not sure on the location of 38082 however.

They were loaned to Green Transport, but have returned to Northampton. And now they have disappeared off the radar!  :D

So the question still remains unanswered, where have 38123/4 gone now?

I can advise that 38098 is also still inservice as it was operating on the 29 at lunchtime today.

About the gone Citybuses, what replaces these or are services cut back so they are surplus?

There were some minor cutbacks in February, which accounts for the reduced PVR. However Northampton is now seriously short on the double deck front and I imagine that we will be seeing some newer deckers arriving soon to allow continued operation of school contracts.

If we are seriously short of double decks, why have 38123/4 disappeared again, they had only just been brought back from Wyvern and repainted into corporate livery and have now dsappeared again no one knows where.

Does anyone in the First organisation know what they are doing, if these two vehicles were not of the older variety I would have bet they would have gone to bloody Leicester !!!

Dennis.

..........they're certainly not in 'bloody Leicester'     ;D

As you say, far too old for Leicester (and they haven't got any school work for them either). Leicester is, of course, 100% low floor.

As for your comment 'Does anyone in the First organisation know what they are doing' - perhaps we'd better start a new thread on the subject although it might only run to one word. (Hint - only 2 letters and the first one is 'N')

They may have been 'hidden' from prying eyes somewhere in First Wyvern! Buses magazine has no information, as per the norm.

38099 was in Church Street Wellingborough this morning.

It was on Driver Shuttle duties but was blinded for Service 392

Cor blimey, the state of it! But that's First for you! I think are likely to remain in service forever... (even with 2017 DDA coming up)

Noted today in yard at rear of St. James garage were Volvo Citybuses 38097/9 (J297/9 GNV), they were parked on either side of 38083 which was withdrawn some time ago and suggests that they too are withdrawn.

I wouldn't be so rash as to suggest that First might transfer some newer buses in to replace them (God forbid they would ever send new ones !!!), so is it more likely that the PVR is now such that  these buses are now surplus to requirements, this means there are now only three Citybuses in service (38121/2 and 38098) and I wouldn't be surprised if 38098 is not long for this world ( one can only hope) as it is in an equally decrepit state as 38097/9.

38121 is also decrepit, i may have had a repaint but they still haven't fixed the Screaming belt or what ever it is, its been like that for months now.

But then again this is Wirst Northampton, so they are probably trying to run it into the ground

The road tax on scruffy Volvo Citybus 38098 expires on 31st August 2010, hopefully it will not be renewed !!!
