First Essex Olympian and VR running in service
« on: July 01, 2010, 07:44:36 PM »
I picked this up from the LOTS News website.  A last chance to ride an original Eastern National Olympian in company service on the new few Saturdays.

Is C418HJN going to be preserved? I'd like to see that back in Eastern National colours.

At the moment, absolutely NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER! :'(  :'(You're better off getting one from Ipswich Buses - while they still have them!

34815 has been acquired by Ensign for resale for preservation only, 34818 is to follow.

EDIT: Correct second fleetnumber.

Do you mean 34818?  32xxx's are Trident's IIRC.

I think the only other time First buses were sold to Ensign for resale to preservationists were Routemasters from the 7 and 23. I may be wrong.

I believe Routemasters come under the same rules as coaches AFAIK?

did they actually own the RM's- I thought they were leased from London Transport under some odd deal.

They have had some odd 'coaches' over the years, the early (C-reg) bendi's from South Yorkshire were deemed to be coaches, but they never resold any of their ECW coach bodied Leyland Olympians (for example).

Wouldn't it be brilliant if someone brought a load of old coaches from First and ran against them on the X1- that would stuff up their resale theory rather rapidly.

I think they're far too knackered to be any good!
