Regal SOTD Summer 2010
« on: August 27, 2010, 07:33:56 PM »
At Harlow bus station, I saw demonstrator Optare Solo YJ10MBF doing driver training on the new Harlow routes which Regal are gaining this Sunday. It was also seen going around Church Langley, obviously learning for the 10, which Regal will operate on Sundays.

Also saw one of their Alexander Dash darts also on driver training.

Went to Harlow today with the Essex Sunday Saver, to have a look a Regal's first day at operating the local Harlow Sunday routes (PVR- 3).

Was entirely slimline Optare Solo operated:

201 (YJ06YSK) was operating the 10 (Harlow Town Stn-Church Langley)
204 (YJ58CDE) was operating the 4 / 11 (Little Parndon-Latton Bush/Katherines)
205 (YJ58CDF) was operating the 12 (Old Harlow-Staple Tye), which I had a ride on. Can't understand why this bus operates along Edinburgh Way, a road only served by a Mon-Fri peak hour service, and also a half hourly Mon-Fri shopping hours service 5.

Harlow is very different on a Sunday compared to a Mon-Sat. Usually loads of buses of all types, liveries and routes operate, but on Sunday, only the following operate: hourly 10, hourly 4, hourly 11, hourly 12, hourly 510, 2-hourly 501, 2-hourly 541 and 2-hourly 724! Bus Station was a ghost town.

Also had a go on Regals sunday 240/250 (Debden-Waltham Cross), a contract which they have held for a few years. To my surprise, Optare Solo demonstrator YJ10MBF turned up. On the way back, I got step-entrance Dart N414MBW. Very rare to see a step-entrance operating on Sundays these days. Essex CC contracts specify low-floor buses, but I think that might be just for new contracts. When the 240/250 contract is renewed, they will probably have to operate low-floor buses.
