Nice to see that First in Northampton know how to make best use of their vehicles.

That would be unbelievable if it was any bus company other than First. No doubt they had a Solo on the 4 to compensate !  ;)

Two Barbie Solos in Wellingborough this afternoon.

53058 on the driver shuttle and another (unidentified) on Connect Wellingborough services.

Not according to my records. These three Solos were delivered in October 2006 for service changes at the end of that month, so MOT due date is about now.

Does anyone know what First Northampton vehicles have been stood down or transferred as a result of the recent service losses ? I initially thought it may be the Barbie-liveried Solos, but I have seen them on odd occasions recently. The remaining Volvo Citybuses are still appearing on a variety of routes (if 8 routes can be called a variety !)

The only vehicle that I haven't seen out and about for a while is B7L 66336, which I believe suffered rear end damage following an engine fire in August.

Passenger 933

The only vehicles that have been withdrawn as a result of the service reductions are Volvo Citybuses 38097/99, I also thought the Solos would be transferred elsewhere and I have not seen any of them on service until yesterday (Friday) when 53049 was parked up in the bus station.

The only Citybuses still in service are 38098,38121/122 and the two B7L's 32629/30 are still in use ( Leicester apparently haven't yet found a reason to take them off us !!)

Barbie Solos seem to be the preferred option for the Wellingborough Driver Shuttles now.

Dennis,

You will, no doubt, be pleased to hear that Leicester has had to put out 4 *extra* buses in an attempt to counter new competition on a key trunk route (88 - Eyres Monsell). This leaves them with virtually nothing spare, but there have been no arrivals..........yet. I had thought that 66301 might return from Northampton but it seems not, to date.

Could you just get those Geminis started up to make sure they're ready.........

:-)

Dale

Dale

Thanks for your usual wry comment which I was expecting !!

I would suggest that the powers that be at Leicester visit St. James garage where there are three serviceable Volvo Citybuses no longer required at Northampton (38083, 38097/99) they just need a repaint in latest corporate livery as they are getting somewhat scruffy, but they do look rather lonely standing in the middle of the yard and Leicester is very welcome to them !!!

Oh, I forgot, they would be much too old for Leicester but apparently were good enough for Northampton, and you can't have our two B7L's otherwise what would we use on Wellingborough shuttles and school contracts ?

Dennis,

I know you like a few 'wry comments' from a bit further north.......

If it's any use, here's a piece I put on another group earlier:-

Dale
.....

First Leicester's operational fleet as at today totals just 102 (for a pvr of 98).

This is made up of:-

Volvo B7TL/ALX 400.......................... 32053-9/61-99/32277     (47)
Volvo B7TL/Wright Gemini .................32627-8/31-5/9-50/37146    (20)
Volvo B7L/Wright Eclipse ..................66302-23      (22)
Volvo B7RLE/Wright Eclipse Urban.... 66962-74     (13)

Up to three minis (for staff shuttles) and up to 3 trainers are also available (in theory at least) but none are to be used for service work.

Although they've abandoned the repaint programme and, apparently, attempted to get more routine servicing done overnight, I would have thought that MOT preparation/major repairs etc would have quickly eaten into just 4 spares.......

Lance/Verde 67252 in Greyfriars this afternoon loading up for the 29 to King's Heath.

I don't know if this qualifies as a stray or not.

On the grounds that this vehicle hardly strays out onto stage service these days...i'd say yes ;)

It is still around due to it having seat belts and therefore can be used as a spare vehicle on the NSG contract.

That's an M-reg Lance isn't it. Surely that is one of the newer buses left with First Northampton (ignoring the B7Ls). I'm surprised Leicester hasn't taken the B7Ls and B7TLs yet.

67252 M252MRW is retained as a spare for the BMC Schoolbuses, hence the seat belts, and while it does occasionally venture out into service, it is quite rare these days,as they have plenty of B7's lynig around going nowt since the service changes

It is reguarly used as the Wellingborough shuttle though

Here Here!!! I too am surprised that Leicester haven't taken the two remaining B7L's but our friend Dale thinks we should get them ready to go ( see above).

What are the B7TL's you refer to?

B7TL's are the two remaining Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini double deckers at Northampton ;)

B7L's are the single deck Wrightbus Eclipse Northampton has lots of!

67252 was on the 4 this evening.

And I saw it on the 2 yesterday a.m. so it's certainly getting round a lot of what remains of the FN route network.
