Arriva London SOTD Winter 2010.
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:41:04 PM »
I don't usually post obs about Arriva London, but today the 20 and 397 which enter Essex were severely affected by the tube strikes.

Debden and Loughton are on the Central Line, which was suspended, so every one was squeezing on to the 20 (for Walthamstow Central Station) or 397 (for Chingford Station) to join the National Rail line into Liverpool Street. The 20 was slightly busier than usual, but it coped because it is a double-deck route every 15 minutes, but the 397 was much worse...it uses 9.4m single decks every 30 minutes.

The roads were very busy, and it took me an hour to get to my sixth form compared to the usual 15 minutes! The 397 I was on was a Chingford Mount turn. Turns are very rare on this route. The only turn I have seen on this route was a couple of years ago when it had to terminate early at Loughton Station because of a technical failure.
