I wonder where the B7R's will end up now, I know there are two B10M's a bit further North that could be replaced....?

Would it be too much to expect common sense and see these return to the X1 ?  :D

Not commercially viable? I thought the service was doing brilliantly a few years ago, with the minicoaches replaced by new full-sizes ones and the abforementioned B7Rs.

If they do go back to EC, might that be the end for The Beast? Sounds like a bit too much common sense for First though.

Oh dear. Says a lot for either the general reliability of the B7R, or the engineering budget of the part of First where they came from, if knackered B10Ms are still reliable enough to cover for newer vehicles.

X30?
The successful First Essex service between Southend & Stansted Airport that used to use the Cheetahs and now uses leather seated Plaxton Panthers.

The X22 has only existed since 01/11/09

X30?

The X30 is Stansted Airport to Southend, and uses a fleet of 08 plate Panther bodied B9R's like this one.

The X22 is Stansted Airport to Colchester and uses the three former D&C/ECOC B7R's along with 20102 and 20500/1 every now and then.

Not true. The X22 has existed for a number of years initially as route 222, gaining new Cheetahs in 2003 and being renumbered X22 in 2004. The change in 2009 was the extension of the service to Clacton, previously it had only started at Colchester.

EDIT: The service was first operated by First Airport Buses from 19 May 2000 as the Stansted Coachlink using specially liveried minibuses. The service had reportedly been taken over from Anglia Railways. See http://web.archive.org/web/20010221061132/www.firsteasternnational.co.uk/news/190500.htm.

To also add thats when 20500/1 joined alongside 20102 to work X22 after the extension.

The boom times seem to be over for airport services; even the ones that do still exist (like the 2 hourly Cambridge - Stansted services that remain after the route has been cut from a height of 2 an hour) are mere shadows of their former selves :(

I meant the X22 in it current form, should have made that a little clearer! ;)

The article makes the comment that the timetable is not shown in the railway timetables but it is shown on the new (December) route diagram that appears in front of the NXEA timetables.

However, I cannot make the times come up on Nationalrail.co.uk although I am sure it used to be included on that site - through tickets are available.

I think is a shame that the service has ceased although the comment about the pricing in the article is very true.  You would only use it if you were in a hurry or wanted to get to the airport.  For any other journeys, it was just too expensive.  I would have thought that it would be worth Excel looking at the X5 to see if it could serve some the X22 stops to increase its viability at the expense of a slightly longer journey time.

The Colchester Gazette reports (http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/8637966.New_hope_for_Colchester_to_Stansted_bus_service/) that Stansted Airport are seeking a replacement operator and say that "talks with potential new operators are at a very early stage, but we’ll keep everyone up to date on how they progress".

Further to the previous report, TGM Group will be operating the route from 9th January, starting at the University of Essex and not Clacton - see http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/8755410.X22_bus_to_Stansted_saved/ (timetable at bottom of http://www.essex.ac.uk/visiting/colchester.aspx).
Presumably this will be an Excel/TGM Stansted/AirportByCoach service.

The cessation of the X22 was raised on another group so I thought I would look for the replacement as mentioned above.  The replacement is well hidden.  I could not find on Airportbycoach, Excel or Stansted Airport sites.  I couldn't get Traveline to show me either.  Does anyone know if it is actually running?  I will be at Stansted next Sunday so will look then.

I've seen a photo of it on the Essex Bus Photos Google Group. There is a note on the First Essex X22 service on Traveline which says
Quote
Change of operator and route effective 9th January 2011
The First X22 service from Clacton to Stansted via Colchester and Braintree is being cancelled with effect from 9th January 2011. However, from 9th January 2011, this service will continue to be operated by airportbycoach (TGM Group) between Colchester (University of Essex) and Stansted Airport to a revised timetable.  For timetable and fares information please contact TGM Group on 01279 681800.
I guess that part of the reason for the delay in the timetable being put up is that the route was only accepted by VOSA on the 8th, a day before the service started.
