Pricing irregularities...
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:21:34 AM »
Looks like National Express pricing has gone the same opaque way as the railways...

Top tip for getting discount fares on airport journeys; see if you can find a journey to London that changes at the airport you want to go to....

I was under the impression that they'd had 'dynamic pricing' for some while. I've certainly seen fares change and the balance tip for or against NatEx/Megabus where they compete (eg Bristol-London) when I've booked on behalf of my son a year or two back.

I have noticed a change in the website layout.

Both the Home Page and the Low Fare Finder...

In the examples above I selected a single Cambridge-London journey. However selection an 'Open return' gives rather more expensive prices...

The example I first found it on was Northampton to London changing at Heathrow being up to £14 cheaper than a ticket from Northampton to Heathrow using the same bus as the first leg of the longer journey.  I found a few alternative routes where it also worked.

They were are all routes where there are:
- services from a town to London on which low fares are available
- additional services from that town that go to an airport and that don't go to London
- further services from that airport to London, none of which originate from your departure point.
