Withdrawn Vehicles at PVS

 All the withdrawn vehicles have now been removed from St James, the last one 38097 left sometime last week, it has already been joined at PVS by 38124 which i didnt even know had been withdrawn

 Something tells me, the final three 38098/121/122 may not have long left, it'll be a sad day when we loose those, the final conection to when we had a decent bus company in Northampton  :(

Mutly, perhaps sooner  than you think. According to the Fleet List on the First Northampton website 38098's MOT expired today, 25th June, and I can't see it being put through another one.

We haven't had a decent caring bus company in Northampton since Grampian took over from Northampton Transport, I really miss the days when we had new batches of usually five at a time of those lovely old Daimler CVG6's/Roe bodies.

 Indeed, the Daimlers were lovely vehicles, even the VR's were well looked after.

I appear to have been wrong in assuming that 38098 would not  put through another MOT as it was noted running along Edgar Mobbs Way this evening.

I've just looked at the fleet list on the First Northampton site and it says that 38098's PSV expiry is 29/6/11 so I wouldn't assume it is safe yet!

I'm assuming there will be no replacements for the three remaining Citybuses? Does that also mean that Wirst in Northampton will be bereft of double deckers aside from the two remaining B7TLs, which surely Leicester has their eyes on.

I am sure Leicester would be only too pleased to take the last two B7TL's if they could find work for them in the same way as they stole all the others and the B7RLE's which were delivered here brand new to "show First's commitment to Northampton" as the publicity blurb went at the time.

Then they were all transferred away within weeks to Leicester and all we got in return were life expired vehicles that Leicester had finished with, some commitment !!!

So it would seem that Leicester don't have any rubbish to off load onto us so you are probably quite right to think that we shall have no double decks in the fleet when the last three Citybuses have gone except the Geminis (if they survive !)

I am sure Dale can advise us more accurately of Leicester's plans.

Do the B7TL's have a specific rosta at Northampton or are they just used ad-hoc with the single deckers?

Despite expiry of it's PSV and MOT tests, the wreck 38098 is STILL on the road, seen yesterday ob the usual school run.

I saw on of the Volvo B7 double decks being used as a SCHOOL BUS with the destination programmed as such. Not your usual fare.

I agree, it surely didn't deserve to get through another PSV and MOT test, if it had been allocated anywhere else but Northampton it would no doubt have been sent for scrap.

But we all know First's attitude "anything is good enough for Northampton".

Ok, fair enough, I've never been to Northamptonshire, so I wouldn't know how bad their buses are over there, but, remember the Sheds Great Yarmouth had. The tri-axles, I mean. Also, I would'ave thought that First would'ave gotten rid off H132 FLX far earlier.

You never know but Giles Fearnley did describe that as a one off and said there were no other disposals in the pipeline.

Just to confirm, the new management structure (from transportxtra) is...

South East and Midlands Region – Regional Managing Director: Nigel Barrett

In the South East and Midlands Region, seven General Managers will be responsible for day to day service delivery across the local towns and cities. They will report to a Service Performance Director (a new post yet to be filled) in the Regional team of specialists which has an Engineering Director, Mick Brannigan, Commercial Director, Steve Wickers, and Financial Planning Director, David Marshall.

The following key appointments have been made in each region as part of the restructure:

South and East Midlands

Steve Wickers – Regional Commercial Director.

Mick Brannigan - Regional Engineering Director.

This was cancelled at the last minute supposedly due to insufficient passengers, I sent a letter, followed it up with a reminder and got no reply whatsoever, not even an acknowledgement or an apology, so that shows how efficient he is.

Assuming wreck 38098 has got a new PSV and MOT as it is still on the road, can anyone tell me how it managed to get re-certified as by the look/state of it, if it had been allocated anywhere else but Northampton it would have been withdrawn and long gone by now.

Still we all know what First think of Northampton !!!!!!

Most observers at Leicester seemed 'a little surprised' (understatement) when this announcement was made. As you say, he's been around Leicester/Northampton for a very long time - some suggest it's about the same time that First has been declining.......

When Mr. Z was at Northampton before I understand the operating staff gavec him a nick name which began with a "W", I'll leave you to guess what it was !!!!

Lets hope he continues the decline so that we get rid of the last remnants  of First from our town.

It is noticeable that services which have been discontinued by First and taken over by Stagecoach are now flourishing, it makes one wonder the real reason for First de-registering them in the first place.

He has the same nickname in Leicester.....

It does seem that First have not found anything else to cut here recently. After having totally withdrawn their route to Eyres Monsell via Aylestone Road (taken on by Arriva), and their Birstall route (taken on by Centrebus), they clearly ran out of ideas - so made some drivers redundant and, for good measure, got rid of the security people who used to ensure that only staff could enter the premises.....

Needless to say, these routes taken over by Arriva and Centrebus are still continuing quite happily.

I can't help thinking that Northampton must automatically appear on the (new) senior management radar quite frequently, although I do wonder if that Luton Airport work was added in just to make the overall figures more palatable to the accountants.

I should think the same applies here in Northampton as in Leicester, First have so few services left here that if they DID decide to withdraw any more, they might just as well throw in the towel and leave town altogether. (Hope Hope !!!)

As is already being shown, Stagecoach can do a much better job.
