Reading Buses Happenings 2012
« on: January 02, 2012, 12:53:27 AM »
This is a new format of note pages, for general day-to-day sightings, run-of-the-mill daily observations, and even the more unusual strays spotted in daily operation.

Open up a separate thread for service changes, and major announcements (i.e. PI callings, new ownership, cessation of operations, that kind of thing!)

This thread shall continue throughout 2012, but Admins reserve the right to cut one and start again if there are more than 250 postings in one particular thread, or if there is an argument or serious off-topic problems etc.

Enjoy!

Just a couple for today:

One of the 5/6 branded green OmniDekkas had a minor collision with a sign post in Station Road at about 8.45.  The vehicle was pulling up against stop EC (5s) when it swung in too wide and the mirror mounted above the door hit a high level mounted "No Parking" sign.  The outer casing of the mirror split into three and went flying in several directions (one piece bouncing off of the bus shelter and landing on the footpath in front of the camera shop), while the the body of the mirror was swung round almost 180 on its arm ending up parallel to the body.  The incident was seen by another driver and (fluky enough) by a fitter who was in a van that was behind the bus.   No other damage was caused and the mirror was able to be twisted back to its normal position.  I assumed it resumed duties from there on.

Newbury & District Enviro400 No 1207 was seen operating the 0905 JetBlack1 service to Newbury

Grey 1026 continues to operate a diagram on the 9s.  It was on this a few times last week as well, so one wonders whether at least one of the red Solars are actually unavailable, given that the gas powered demonstrator was filling one diagram as well (did not see it today however).

Generic Silvers out and about:
Both 1013 and 1014 were seen on the Station roundabout within a few minutes of each other this morning.  Both displayed "Not in Service" and neither waited any time before moving off again.

There were a few silver OmniDekkas operating on the 6s, while a silver OmniCity double deck was on a 23 this afternoon.

Reading Buses are running special timetables on Bank Holidays this year.
In most cases this is based on a sunday services, with some routes seeing an earlier start, or even enhanced frequency throughout the day.

The 82K service to Swallowfield is running its normal Sunday schedule today, and the first journey (1015 out, 1046 back) was operated by Vitality liveried Solar No 1009, seen picking up passengers in Spencers Wood.

There is no repeat of last year's situation as Fleet Buzz are not operating today
