Carousel Happenings 2012
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:07:17 PM »
This is a new format of note pages, for general day-to-day sightings, run-of-the-mill daily observations, and even the more unusual strays spotted in daily operation.

Open up a separate thread for service changes, and major announcements (i.e. PI callings, new ownership, cessation of operations, that kind of thing!)

This thread shall continue throughout 2012, but Admins reserve the right to cut one and start again if there are more than 250 postings in one particular thread, or if there is an argument or serious off-topic problems etc.

Enjoy!

Carousel are to enhance Services 740/A40 to every 20 mins between High Wycombe and Uxbridge, still hourly to Heathrow I think. At the same time, no changes to A30 apparently...  from today's LSP Bulletin

None of the vintage buses passed to Go-Ahead, these being the Ailsa V2, RM & RML, two RT's and the Seddon recovery truck.

All of the Metrobuses passed to Go-Ahead but were immediately withdrawn and put up for disposal - which is as follows

M524, 598 and 758 all sold to Steve Burns, High Wycombe for continued use with the exception of M758 which passes to a non PSV owner in Wycombe.

M's 2744, 2865, 2887 were all acquired, withdrawn and have been sold to PVS, Carlton. 2760 was owned by J. Robinson of Abbey Coaches and was not transferred in the sale.

Additionally L564, DMS 8 and 13 and the two Wright bodied B6's are also sold to PVS, Carlton and some have left the fleet already.

All other vehicles transferred over

New vehicles in are 4 ex London PVL's are currently at High Wycombe on contract work.

if that many have gone it will explain why when i was at heathrow yesterday to catch the 724 after acton EVO12 was there broken down then picked up by a low loader and when i was leaving on the 17:15 724 saw a red PLAXTON PRIMO on the A30 entering heathrow !

thanks for the info any idea of the fleet numbers of the PVLs ?

All of the vehicles sent for scrap at PVS were withdrawn anyway prior to the takeover with the exception of L564.

I suspect the Primo was covering because it is LEZ compliant, whilst the company has spare buses the A40/740 operate inside the LEZ zone and using a non compliant bus could result in a very large fine. Given that they work on the 580/1 it was probably easier to send one down to cover the breakdown than run a dead bus from Wycombe.

The PVLs are 58, 91, 210 and 211.

DMS S523KFL is in green BucksCC livery and was still operating a couple of weeks ago, as was red R708MEW, both since the take-over.   On the other hand, S513 and S514KFL have gone to PVS. Indeed on 6th March I did observe S513 being loaded onto a PVS lorry, and S514 (and the two B6s) were being prepared for the same treatment.

The Carousel Buses fleet has been renumbered into the Oxford Bus style sequence from this morning in line with OBC & Thames Travel types.

41x - MAN based vehicles
48x - Larger LF single deckers (not MAN/Mercedes)
5xx - Other midibuses (Darts, DAF SB120 etc)
75x - Plaxton Primo's
8xx - Mercedes based vehicles (Citaros and Mercedes/MCV)
9xx - Highbridge double deckers (Volvo B7s and Olympians)

The PVL's on loan from Go-Ahead London retain London fleetnumbers and type codes.

DMS8, 28 and DPL480 retain old numbers at present.

It has been reported on the 'Go South Coast' forum that all the Tempos will eventually transfer to Carousel due to W&d having problems with the length of the vehicles. It will help to standardise the Carousel fleet.

Are these the 12.6m examples aquired from Veolia Cymru?

Yes, but they're not all 12.6m. I think some are as long as 13m.

Optare only ever made up to 12.6m versions. Four of the nine are X1260s, and the other five are X1200s. Or it might be the other way round! Either way, they are being replaced as the 30-odd (either 36 or 38) new Volvo B7RLE/Wright arrive at Poole.

Either way, not all of them are the same length, that's what I was trying to say!

It is not correct to say Carousel are getting all nine from W&D. Three have arrived already numbered 801-2-3 and I believe 3 more are due in the next couple of weeks 804-5-6 provisionally but it is not 100% definate.

W&D have withdrawn 9 pending new vehicles.

All of the batch are 12.6m long, the only difference in them is the transmission. Most at Alison but 801 has a Voith gearbox. 802-6 are also Euro4 engines.

Well that particular bus isnt withdrawn then, as there are nine and Carousel only have three that where withdrawn 2-3 weeks ago ready for delivery to High Wycombe.

Three more are supposidly withdrawn so I guess 3 are still in service.

Three further Tempos have arrived from Wilts & Dorset, these buses are:
YJ56 WUC – 803
YJ56 WUE – 805
YJ56 WVS – 806

To keep the registrations in sequence, YJ56 WUD has been renumbered from 803 to 804.

Loaned Volvo B7/Plaxton Presidents PVLs 58, 91, 210 and 211 are now surplus to requirements at Carousel and will be returning to London this weekend for use as Olympics reserves with Go Ahead London. The two loaned to Thames Travel this week are now back at High Wycombe.

DAF SB220/Plaxton 'DAF976' (R976 FNW) has also been withdrawn from service now.
