Freedom Travel Happenings 2012
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:39:43 PM »
This is a new format of note pages, for general day-to-day sightings, run-of-the-mill daily observations, and even the more unusual strays spotted in daily operation.

Open up a separate thread for service changes, and major announcements (i.e. PI callings, new ownership, cessation of operations, that kind of thing!)

This thread shall continue throughout 2012, but Admins reserve the right to cut one and start again if there are more than 250 postings in one particular thread, or if there is an argument or serious off-topic problems etc.

Enjoy!

Afternoon all :)

Had a pleasant shock/surprise today, Freedom were using Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympian G512SFT on the 114.   Doing a bit of digging, it looks like this was new to Kentish Bus ( who often used to register their vehicles with Newcastle area registrations I believe) back in 1989.  It was in a allover dark blue livery, minus fleetnames when I saw it today.  It did sound good though :):)    Think its last owner might have been Whittakers, Penwortham ?

Suzy, feel free to use this info for the next PSV Circle news-sheet - in case you haven't already !

Is this a Fencabs bus that is used on school runs to Comberton and other schools during the week?

I thought that myself at first I must admit. Having looked, I have noted that the latest PSV Circle book for the area doesn't have this vehicle as part of the Fencabs fleet either. I know Freedom Travel do run deckers already though, and actually thinking about it, when I saw it  the bus had an Almex electronic ticket machine fitted to it, so I'm fairly certain its not a Fencabs bus - despite its livery !

Fencabs have owned Freedom Travel for about 18 months now I believe, which could explain the transfer.

Ah, I'd forgotten that !  Still nice to see a different vehicle on the 114 though :):)    Often when the Optare Solo isn't available they put on Mercedes Vario T 56JKG instead.  Great to see a Leyland Olympian out & about on a Saturday too - can't think I have ever seen Freedom Travel put a decker on the 114 thinking about it.  Nice to see a "new" acquisition in the area.

Really? I knew Fencabs PSV arm passed from it's original owners last year to a Chinese couple but I wasn't aware that before that they had brought Freedom Travel?

The only NC Olly I've seen being used by Fencabs on schools around this side of Cambs is G905SKP. But I don't study them!

They have a depot at Queen Adelaide near Ely, in the old sugar factory yard.

Went to EnsignBus in June 2012 - the other one (R221 CRW) is ex-GoAhead Group.

Aside from these recent arrivals I have
RIB 4313 Neoplan
B74 PJA Olympian
B76 PJA Olympian
F605 MSL Olympian
G512 SFT Olympian
G704 TCD Olympian
M214 EDX MetroRider
N977 NAP 709D
N  2 WKC Ka S250
T 56 JKG Vario
V422 JAG CTop
V276 PGG ditto but in bits I think
W236 DNO Dart SLF
DE 52 OKW 413CDI
BU 04 EYH 413CDI
LM 04 RVE Volkswagen Transporter
MX 07 BBU Solo

... but there is a fair chance some of the older stuff may be gone, and I'd welcome any clarifications therein.

Sorry - messed that up!

R389 LGH was a Yellow Bus before ending up at Ensign

R221 CRW was last with Stagecoach Midlands (MRS).
