Stagecoach South Happenings 2012
« on: January 02, 2012, 10:32:51 PM »
This is a new format of note pages, for general day-to-day sightings, run-of-the-mill daily observations, and even the more unusual strays spotted in daily operation.

Open up a separate thread for service changes, and major announcements (i.e. PI callings, new ownership, cessation of operations, that kind of thing!)

This thread shall continue throughout 2012, but Admins reserve the right to cut one and start again if there are more than 250 postings in one particular thread, or if there is an argument or serious off-topic problems etc.

Enjoy!

DART SLF of Stagecoach Hants & Surrey in horrendous accident.
Copied (edited) and pasted this report from BBC news site.

A bus driver suffered serious injuries when a large oak tree fell on to his vehicle during strong winds in Surrey.

The man had to be cut free from the bus after the tree, which was 6ft in diameter, struck the single-decker vehicle in Witley, Godalming, earlier.

Surrey Police said the driver had been taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London.

Surrey Police said traffic was delayed across the county as fallen trees closed roads, including the A287 Hindhead Road between Hindhead and Haslemere.

Two passengers on board the bus at the time of the incident, on the A283 Petworth Road, were unharmed, according to operator Stagecoach.

Road closed
The tree also damaged a nearby building.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said: "The incident took place around 8.25am, when a large oak tree, measuring 6ft across, fell on the single decker Stagecoach bus in Petworth Road near the junction with Church Lane.

"It is believed that the driver, who was freed by fire crews, has suffered serious injuries and he is being taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting."

Our first priority and thoughts are with our driver and his family at this difficult time”

"We can confirm that a bus operating on route number 70, between Haslemere and Guildford, was involved in an incident on White Hart Road in Witley," said a Stagecoach spokesman.

"The bus driver, who had to be cut free from the cab of the vehicle by the emergency services, has been seriously injured and is currently being treated in hospital.

"Two passengers were travelling on the bus and neither have sustained any injuries.

"Our first priority and thoughts are with our driver and his family at this difficult time."

Photograph of the scene shows an unidentified Dart SLF Plaxton Pointer with the roof at the front of the bus together with most of the front badly smashed, possibly a write off.

It was indeed. Rather than being on a 70 from Haslemere to Guildford, it was actually a 71 from Guildford to Chiddingfold.
Thoughts go to the driver, a very nasty accident.

Stagecoach South website (quoting the Southdown fleetlist) is reporting that 17 Enviro 300 (30D in new speak) 27828-27844 and 18 Enviro 200 (20D) 36823-36840 are due @ Xmas time - however it is not known what the allocation split is between South and South East.
