Ex-Northampton Volvo Citybus 38125 (K125 URP)
« on: April 04, 2012, 06:35:21 PM »
I was browsing through the Fleet News in the latest issue of "Buses" today and nearly fell off my seat when I read that the above vehicle is still with First Potteries, and is "back in service at Newcastle-under-Lyme after refurbishment".

I did not realise that any of the Northampton batches of these vehicles still existed anywhere other than in their home town, let alone that they were refurbishment candidates.

Do Potteries share the same management as Northampton, with a penchant for these superannuated vehicles ?

Dennis (Lloyd) - if you ask nicely, maybe they will transfer it back here just for you, as I know you are a big fan.  ;D ;D  ;D

passenger 933

I also read that 38125 had been refurbished and also could hardly  believe what I was reading !!

If my "favourite" bus company are still refurbishing twenty year old vehicles I suggest the person responsible for this decision comes to Northampton and takes a good look at 38098 which is still considered by First to be good enough for all day service in Northampton.

A prime candidate for refurbishment if ever I saw one but better still Cohen's scrapyard (if it still existed).

38123/6 are still going as well at Redditch,

Cohen's yard has now gone, they are building some sort of industrial estate on the site now

Regarding the apalling state of 38098, I feel the only reason First keep it in service is that they cannot find anything else old enough to warrant transfer to Northampton to replace it, after all, anything is good enough for Northampton as we have found out over the past few years.

Roll on the day when First decide to dispose of it's Northampton operation, I am sure it cannot be that far off. ??? ??? ??? ???

Does that mean that 38125 now wears the new First Livery? Also, what exactly is wrong with either 38125 or 38098?

ECbusman

I cannot make any comment about 38125 as I have not seen it recently but if you are based locally just take a look at 38098 for yourself and make your own judgement.

I think 39098 has a good case as the final vehicle still in service with the dreaded Barbie 2 livery.

I don't think even First Western National (which used to run many 20+ year old Olympians and VRTs until recently) has anything that old in everyday service anymore...
