Norwich-Great Yarmouth trains
« on: July 17, 2012, 05:11:26 PM »
I've noticed on Summer Saturdays, there are a few journeys from Norwich to Great Yarmouth which don't stop at any other stations.

I know some of these are the direct London Liverpool Street - Yarmouth trains, but there are only about 2 of these a day on Summer Saturdays. On the timetable there are a few other journeys which are non-stop. Does anyone know why this is, and what types of trains operate these express journeys? I'm presuming its just the normal DMUs.

Thanks,
Alex.

the non stop trains on summer saturdays are the loco hauled sets that run from liverpool street a diesel couples at norwich and drags the electric train to yarmouth thus providing a through service to frm londn without passengers hhaving to change trains at norwich

I know about the 2 through trains from London on summer Saturdays, but on the timetable there are 6 non-stop trains from Norwich to Great Yarmouth, so I'm just wondering about the 4 extra trains.

I would hazard a guess and say they run to increase the service to approx every half hour because with the old service trains between tended to get very full with 99% of passengers wanting to travel to Yarmouth to start holidays and to Norwich to get forward connections home

Hi all

I think there is some confusion here regarding the London trains. There are two trains two and from London providing four trains in all.

In addition there are two empty stock workings from Norwich Crown Point to Great Yarmouth at the beginning and end of the day

They are as follows:-
5V33 09:19 Norwich Crown Point to Great Yarmouth (arr 9:51) (empty stock)
1V33 10:40 Great Yarmouth to London Liverpool Street
1V18 10:00 London Liverpool Street to Great Yarmouth (arr 12:36)
1V43 13:10 Great Yarmouth to London Liverpool Street
1V28 12:30 London Liverpool Street to Great Yarmouth (arr 15:24)
5V28 16:25 Great Yarmouth to Norwich Crown Point (empty stock)

So in total six trains - however 5V28 can sometimes leave earlier than scheduled

The locos hauling the trains are DRS class 47's with the loco running round in Great Yarmouth station. They haul the trains with electric class 90's dead in tow. The latter are normally at the seaside end of the train

The remaining trains are 156 worked with the loaned 150 making the odd appearance

Hope this helps

Roy

Re my post above,I have spoken to a friend of mine who does some work for Network Rail and he says that what I put in my previous post is correct, they run on Summer Saturdays for the sheer number of passengers travelling to Yarmouth and back for holidays
