Service 96
« on: September 26, 2012, 05:40:51 PM »
Does any one know if there has been a change of operating policy by Stagecoach in relation to service 96 Rugby-Northampton.

Since last Monday these services have been operated by the Transbus Enviro 300's in County Links livery (27502-27505).

It would seem quite appropriate as the service does run from one county to another ;D ;D ;D ;D

Dennis, Mutly posted on the Stagecoach Northampton thread that MAN22920 had been transferred to Rugby to help alleviate a capacity problem on certain 96 journeys, that the Enviro 200s couldn't cope with. Knowing 22920's infamous reliability problems I would presume that the Transbus 300s noted are covering for failed 22920.

22920 is only one vehicle, there are at least two or possibly three of the Enviro 300's working this service

There have indeed been 2 of the E300's on the route daily, this is due to one of the "Black Death" E200's (presumably 36209 as i was on 36210 on Wednesday) being VOR all week, and 22920 being a completely useless bag of junk, that has only managed to work one day without breaking down since it moved to Rugby, so far it has over heated three, shed its belts Twice and just been a pain in the neck the rest of the time.

Yesterday, it came off the pits after having another belt fitted, went for a road test, but packed up completely 50 yards out the depot!! and was towed back in by the Cheif Engineers LANDROVER!!!

Here is a picture of it dumped inside Rugby depot this afternoon, its platform strewed with Oily rags :)

22920 has accomplished at least two round trips on service 96 without breaking down so, given it's reputation that is surely some achievement !!!

Is 22921 equally unreliable as we don't seem to hear anything about it.

According to the last allocation list on here 22921 is delicenced with engine
u/s so probably is just as unreliable.maybe be terminal as it has been delicenced?

22921 will (Thankfully ) Never run again, as t has been heavily cannibalised to keep the other wreck going and has been spld i believe.

Rugby were under the impression that they were getting that as well, but i went and checked last Saturday, and it has been stripped of all sorts, and is in the same place, that it has been since April.

The defect card on it, dated 28/3/12 reads  "overheating, Burning Oil, Running like a bag of nails" :)

Have you ever been able to ascertain just why these two (22920/1) have been so unreliable?

Not really, although i was told that they were very prone to overheating, the reasons behind it constantly happening is unclear.

County Links Transbus 300's are still dominating service 96 with the odd branded Enviro 200 thrown in for good measure.

It seems strange seeing these 300's with their prominent branding for services 63/64
working between Northampton and Rugby and I wonder how long this will continue and what is the reason for t5his development.

the reason behind these is because the loadings on the route since the schools went back have risen to the degree that Darts/E300's are not big enough, one trip the 1625 ex Rugby (officially the 961) was leaving people behind.

Since the B10's were withdrawn, with absolutely no chance of reinstatement, unfortunately, the only 40+ seater available were the E300's, origionally these were not to be used, and 22920 went to Rugby specifically to operate the 1625, however we all know what a disaster that was, as it has only worked half a day since it arrived, and i believe Rugby have now basically goven up on the thing, its latest excuse for being off the road being a cracked chassis (Hopefully terminal).

However the stay of the E300's SHOULD soon be coming to an end, possibly this week, as MAN's 22459/60 have transfered over to Rugby from Cambridge and are currently at Rothersthorpe Ave being prepared for movement over to Rugby

At least two County Links Transbus 300's are still working service 96, have the two Man's 22459/60 not gone to Rugby as I understood that when/if they did it would mean the end of the Transbus 300's on this route.

Seen a pic of 22460 in Rugby depot, so they are there. Perhaps they are being plagued by reliability problems as happened with the ex-Oxford pair...

The Transbus 300's (County Link Livery) are still operating service 96 with at least two in service every day.

What has happened to the two MAN's transferred in from Cambridge which are apparently both now at Rugby ?

Absolutely Nothing at Present,  none of them have moved in the last Fortnight, i believe there are some issues about using them, after the 22920 debacle, and rumour has it that apparently the Union and/or Chief Engineer may have "Blacked" them. but if that is the case, nobody has actually told the drivers, who don't particually want to drive them any way ;)

As for the E300's, its back to 2 again?  as from Last Tuesday it has been just the one and the two E200's, 36209 having being vor with fuel system problems

Yesterday saw 27505 on the 1040 ex Greyfriars whilst the 1140 was none other than 22920  :o
Which performed faultlessly all day

However today the route was operated by 36209/10 and 22920, until the MAN shed its belts yet again at Greyfriars prior to operating the 1140 departure, it was replaced by Northampton's 22840 which has stayed on the route for the rest of the day :)

Just a minor observation Mutly - I too saw 22920 working in to Northampton at 10.30-ish this morning. When I got to Greyfriars to go home, a 96-branded E200 was departing on the 11.40 96, and 22920 was parked in the bay with its engine compartment cover open, so I reckon it should have been on the 10.40 ex-Northampton . If I was a conspiracy theorist, I would say this was a ploy on Rugby's part to offload 22920 back on to Northampton.  ;)

No Transbus 300's have been seen on the 96 today, does this mean the problems with the MAN's has been resolved?
