RH Transport: affected school buses

Oxfordshire County Council is stepping in to help after hearing news that family-run bus and coach travel company RH Transport is likely to be placed in to administration on Friday October 5 and is seeking reliable replacement services from alternative bus companies in time for Monday October 8.

RH Transport currently provides 30 school bus services in Oxfordshire (listed below). These services will not run on Friday 5 October.
Schools have been informed of the situation. They have been passing on the message to parents.
Which services are affected?
Chipping Norton, Henry Box and Wood Green secondary schools are served by RH Transport. However each of these schools has an Inset day on Friday October 5 so services would not have been scheduled to run in any event.

In total there are 351 education transport services in Oxfordshire so this represents 8.5 per cent of such services. RH Transport also provides various commercial services.
Identifying ​​replacement operators
Councillor Rodney Rose, Oxfordshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We have already started the process of identifying replacement operators given the news that RH Transport may well be placed in to administration early on Friday.
“We hope that this speedy action will ensure that as many services as possible are operating at the start of the new school week.
“It is not very often that situations arise when bus companies encounter financial difficulties to the degree where they are required to stop operating. However when this does happen, the council would always want to work hard on alternative arrangements that can come in to play as soon as possible.
“Services run by RH Transport will not be on the roads on Friday and we have made schools aware of this so that they can pass the message on to their parents and through their community networks.”

RH Transport: details of replacement bus services

Oxfordshire County Council has agreed with Stagecoach and Oxford Bus Company that they will run many of the bus services previously run by RH Transport, the local bus company that is set to enter administration.

The following services, to replace cancelled RH busses, will be provided by Stagecoach free of charge on Friday October 5 and Saturday October 6:
18: Clanfield – Bampton – Oxford
19: Carterton – Bampton – Witney
63: Longworth – Eaton – Oxford (not the 4:30pm journey from Oxford)
64: Carterton- Lechlade – Swindon
67/A: Wantage - Stanford – Faringdon
X8: Wychwoods – Kingham – Chipping Norton (this will run between Chipping Norton and Kingham only)
X9: Witney – Charlbury - Chipping Norton (except the late night service)
X15: Witney – Southmoor- Abingdon
X47: Wantage – Swindon (this has always been a Saturday only service in any case)
Service 700 to the Oxford Hospitals
Alternative peak-hour arrangements have already been put in place as regards the 700 service from Water Eaton to the Oxford Hospitals with the assistance of the Oxford Bus Company. Travelling on these Oxford Bus Company services will be free of charge.
Water Eaton departures
They will depart Water Eaton at 6:50am, 7:10am, 7:50am, 8:10am, 9:00am.
Existing departures on Stagecoach service S5 will take place at 6:25am, 7:30am and 8:30am but RH passes will not be valid on existing Stagecoach services.
John Radcliffe Hospital departures
They will depart from the John Radcliffe Hospital at 3:30pm, 4:10pm, 4:30pm, 4:50pm, 5:10pm, 5:50pm, 6:30pm, 7:05pm.
Existing departures on Stagecoach service S5 will take place at 3:58pm, 5:03pm and 6:08pm but, again, RH passes will not be valid on these existing services.

63 full timetable except the 1630 will not run.
X8 we will be running the 0645, 0715, 0800, 0930, 1130, 1330, 1525, 1615, 1655, 1745, 1825 and 1905 departures from Chipping Norton and the 0700, 0730, 0835, 0955, 1055, 1355, 1550, 1640, 1720, 1810, 1850 and 1920 departures from Kingham Station. There will be no service between Kingham and the Wychwoods.
X9 Monday - Thursday timetable - the Friday evening journeys will not run.
X15 full timetable, except the short journeys between Witney and Poffley End will not run.
 
Saturday 6th October 2012
 
18, 19, 64, 67/67A, X47 full timetable.
63 full timetable except the 1630 will not run.
X8 we will be running the 0800, 0830, 0930, 1130, 1330, 1525, 1620, 1730, 1825 and 1910 departures from Chipping Norton and the 0815, 0855, 0955, 1055, 1355, 1550, 1650, 1755, 1850 and 1950 departures from Kingham Station. There will be no service between Kingham and the Wychwoods.
X9 full timetable except the 1755 from Witney will finish in Charlbury at 1825 and the late journeys (1912 & 2212 from Chipping Norton and 2000 & 2320 from Witney) will not run.
X15 full timetable.

Fares will not be charged on any of these services.
 
For route 700 our route S5 journeys at 0625, 0730 and 0830 from Water Eaton and 1535, 1640 and 1745 from the JR Hospital will be running as normal. Outside these times connections can be made by using route 14/14A and changing buses on Banbury Road (click here for the timetable - pages 4 & 5).
 
There will be no service on routes 98, 243 and C1.

Sad day indeed for RH Transport.  Their fleet always looked smart and fresh.  Here's hoping that laid-off staff soon find employment elsewhere.

RH Transport: details of replacement bus services

Oxfordshire County Council has arranged for free travel this Monday on all routes formerly provided by bus company RH Transport as part of the deals it has struck with other operators to ensure bus services return to normal on October 8.

Users of the 14 bus services will travel free-of-charge on Monday 8 October following the inconvenience caused as a result of the family-run West Oxfordshire company having entered administration on Friday October 5.
New operators will follow the exact same timetables as the previous RH buses.
The contracts that have been awarded will run until June 2013, except for the 700 which will run until March 2013.
The vast majority of Oxfordshire was unaffected by the RH Transport situation. The 14 RH routes represented around five per cent of overall services in Oxfordshire.

“Regular users of services previously provided by RH Transport should also be thanked for their forbearance and I hope they can see that all at the council have rolled up their sleeves and worked hard on their behalf to minimise disruption. We hope the free travel on Monday will be a satisfactory conclusion for them to what has been a tough few days for all of us.”
