Downtime 11.27 - Tuesday 30th October 2012 - personally I never noticed, but.....

Dear valued client.

We write to advise you in respect of the hosting outage that occurred today.

At 11.27am today the data centre, in which we locate some of  the physical equipment that hosts your website, conducted a stress test on the power supply facilities. This test didn’t go as planned and power to the datacentre facility was lost until such time as an engineer could recover the supply. We still await the outage report form the upstream provider, however we feel we should provide you with as much information as possible through this difficult time.

The power was restored within the hour, and the vast majority of services were resumed shortly thereafter. However, due to the huge inrush of current that occurred as the equipment was powered back on, some of the power supplies on the servers were damaged and have had to be replaced throughout the course of the day. In addition to the physically damaged equipment some firewall issues caused by the boot order of the equipment left some of the routing tables corrupted which in turn meant that some of the servers whilst being online, were un-contactable, these too had to be restored.

We are acutely aware that many calls went unanswered today and we fully intend to work through the large numbers of tickets to keep you, our valued clients, abreast of the situation. We sincerely apologise for our inability to respond to all calls in person today we take great pride in our support and whilst it is nice to be able to give the personal touch to all clients; unfortunately we cannot give it to everyone at once and on this occasion I hope you can sympathise with the predicament that we had thrust upon us.

We intend to keep all clients fully informed of the outcome of the data centre investigations and rather than bombard you with unsolicited emails we will update the service status page at please visit this page for the latest information.

On the back of this incident we will be looking to upgrade our infrastructure and increase the resilience of our network to protect against a datacentre outage of this sort again.

Our sincere apologies for the disruption you have experienced today, we do hope that this event - which has been caused through no fault of ours - will not affect your desire to host with us.

Yours Sincerely
