Peterborough to slash bus subsidy.
« on: January 26, 2013, 02:03:59 PM »
http://www.peterborough.gov.uk/pdf/CouncilAndDemocracy-Budget2013-BudgetProposals2013-14.pdf

From 2013/2014 PCC intend to " We intend to carry out a bus service review and deliver a service with an indicative budget of £600k, saving £500k from the existing £1.1m budget (this is our best estimate of the amount required to meet our statutory duties to vulnerable people)."

"This means that many of the evening, weekend and Bank Holiday services available to the public will be significantly reduced"

"There would be no other services for other residents other than those operated by commercial bus companies such as Stagecoach, Delaine etc."

Presumably the current routes operated under subsidy don't auto start to be commercially viable (and PCC don't back down) then this will see the end of the Enterprise services as well as many evening & Sunday services.

I have just read the proposed budget, and have reached the same conclusion, although I think it
says that they will continue as is for the first six months of the financial year. - There are 64 pages in total of this document so I could have mis-interpreted it. That's a lot to read on a screen .

I thought the writing was on the wall when I saw the February Stagecoach changes. The new services 2/4 cover most of the existing 406 between Queensgate and City Hospital. It is Ravensthorpe that misses out most, but as one of the most outspoken Liberal-Democrat Councillors lives there, I am sure he will not let this happen without a fight.

According to local news reports, the council have agreed to cut services as mentioned in this thread.

Briefly, as far as I can make out:

Discontinue all funding for local link services

Discontinue all funding for some daytime services on Kimes 9 and Stagecoach 24

Discontinue all funding for Sunday services on Stagecoach 37
and the Luxecabs service(cannot remember what this is)

Invest 220k in demand responsive transport

Subsidies for Stagecoach evening and Sunday services are to stay.

There are other bits and pieces but I think these are the main points.

This will become effective on 1st October 2013

Luxecabs service was 342, one return journey Fridays only Thorney - Whittlesey using a taxi. I thought this finished operating a couple of years ago.

I was under the impression this had gone up to two buses a day, if the road was not flooded?

Ah yes. He had to increase the frequency because of overloading!
