Trustybus Route 541/2/3
« on: September 02, 2013, 04:26:46 PM »
Thought I'd report on the first weekday operations of Essex County Council contract routes 541 (Loughton-Epping) and 542/543 (Loughton/Debden circular). Trustybus did begin operating the 541 yesterday but I did not observe which vehicles were used then. This is the first time an operator other than Arriva/TGM have operated the routes, introduced in April 2007.

In terms of vehicles, it is a bit of a down-grade. Operating the 541 today were some rather scruffy looking Darts. These were ex-Metroline and latterly Regal Busways 614 (Y252NLK) and 615 (Y258NLK), still in Metroline livery. I did not go on the 542/543 today, but I did see LT02ZDG on the route.

There were a few teething problems today, such as with ticket machines. Also buses were running quite late, but this was I think mostly due to heavy loads of passengers for the market day in Epping (I've never seen the 541 so busy). Problems like these are, I guess, to be expected on the first few days.

Also, the commercial Mon-Sat daytime extension from Epping to Harlow no longer operates, much to the frustration of some passengers. This also leaves St. Margaret's Hospital with no direct bus service towards Harlow (well, except SM's 20/21, but these do not serve the hospital grounds).

Bit off-topic, but I noticed very out-of-date timetables at the hospital (and in fact almost every bus stop in Epping). There were timetables for Arriva 500/501, which was withdrawn in February 2011!!!, as well as timetables for the NWF and X5. Due to the misleading timetables and withdrawal of the 541 extension to Harlow, there were a group of elderly people waiting at the hospital for any bus to Harlow, but there are no longer any, so I had to direct them to the nearest Harlow-direction bus stop on the main road. Essex County Council need to buck their ideas up with the absolutely awful timetables.

R745BWY and SPD1 (SNZ7259) have been on the 541. Must have been Sundays as they would struggle around the Abridge Estate which is only served on Mon-Sat.

R745BWY is still in blue Metrobus livery with inadequate blinds. I think they've had this vehicle for a while now as well. SPD1 was in full Trustybus livery.

If the Licence for the 351 is held to Trustybus , then Trustybus vehicles should be used . If they are carrying Logic Transport as their legal owner , ought they not have " on Hire to Trustybus" displayed somewhere ?

I appreciate these two companies are in the same " ownership " , but it's the licenced route operatoe vehicles that must be used , or one " hired " there-to ?

A surprise vehicle on the C3/C3A today was Dennis Dart Alexander ALX200 Y240FJN, which was, or still is with Olympian, Im trying to get an answer to it is on hire or has been purchased, all  though the Olympian blinds have been removed, and a Trustybus dot matrix system has been installed, so Im an going to go with that it has been aquired.

Its actually Y248 FJN (not 240).  Roadrunner sent it, and Y244 and Y252 FJN back to Ensign, and now Galleon/ Trustybus has acqueired Y248.  Dave Stewart
