Free Santa special train for Barking community group
11 Dec 2013
500 local residents from Barking were given a free trip to Southend on c2c's "Santa Special" train on Saturday.

The group, all families who attend the Abbey and Gascoigne Children's Centre, were joined by Santa and treated to mince pies on the free trip, designed to give them a festive day out and the chance to do some Christmas shopping.

Louise Driscoll from Abbey Parents United said: "The c2c Santa Special trip allowed Abbey & Gascoigne families to enjoy a great family day out.  This trip brought children, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and even a great-grandparent together!  Fun was had by all and Santa told us how much he enjoyed the trip."

Rahat Ismail, who manages the two children's centres, said: "These are difficult times with parents suffering financially, so the fact c2c has donated this wonderful festive experience for free for the second year running is amazing. Some people had not even seen the sea before, while there were lots of activities in Southend town centre so everyone could have a great time."

c2c Station Manager Stephen Jessup-Peacock, who helped organise the train, said: "We're really delighted we could help make it a day out to remember for these families. We could see how much the kids were enjoying the ride, and it was a real pleasure to help the local community in this way."
