The other non-Gold would almost certainly have been 15444, which worked the last X46 last night to Chowns Mill

Olympians 16696 & 16698 were both on route 7 in Northampton this morning. 16699 was on more familiar territory - 38 to Moulton & return, then on the 3 to Riverside & Rye Hill.

At least 2 of the new E200s are carrying Daventry Dart branding.

Can't answer that, but when we asked about the availability of the Darts, we were told they could be ours, if they could be swapped with Tridents. Therefore, I'd assume that they are to help with extra capacity somewhere, rather than as Olympian replacements.

Have noted often 16/17 have had single deckers on their route would these 2 buses be more support for this. Also when are the E400's due ?

The planned cascade of E400s from Manchester has been cancelled and they will go to Sc Yorkshire for Sheffield Supertram replacement work. However, 19010/12/20 are now permanently allocated to Sc Midlands and will not move to Hull. With the two Tridents from East Scotland this gives Sc Midlands the net increase of 5 DDs it was expecting.

Corby now has four darts working out its depot.
At the present moment they are

34495 KV53 NHM on X1 12/3/14
34588 KX04 RVC  on 1   12/3/14
35224 KX56 JZF   on X1 12/3/14

And new allocation former Leamington allocated

35176 KX56 KHB on X1 12/3/14

Is Corby still expected to get 35225 or 35226?

Word from Corby depot is Solo 47340 is now allocated to Kettering and is currently away for respray into Stagecoach colours.

Stagecoach Northampton's MAN 18.240 22835 has returned from Smiles Engineering in Newcastle fitted with a Cummins B-series 6-cylinder engine to replace its damaged MAN unit. It thus has the same engine and gearbox (four-speed Voith) as the Dennis-chassied Enviro 300, and sounds almost, but not quite, the same. Meanwhile 22833, another of the same batch with a ruined MAN engine, was taken on suspended tow by Cowans to Newcastle, presumably for the same treatment. No doubt this will become the norm as MAN units need replacing.

Doubtful, it is still an MAN just with a different engine.  Stagecoach have done this in a number of places due to reliability issues with the MAN engine.  They are also re-powering a number of Euro 3 vehicles with newer engines which have better fuel consumption figures to save money, there are even some Volvo B7TL deckers in Scotland that have been fitted with Cummins engines due to the fuel savings available.

Am I right in thinking that MAN 22832 was fitted with a Cummins engine back in the autumn?

I saw 22835 coming out of North Gate the other day. It was the engine tone that made me look at the fleetnumber - it definitely has more "throat" to it as opposed to the "whine" of a MAN unit. As a matter of interest, what would the replacement power be for the MAN 14.240s if one of those suffered the same fate - presumably the Cummins 4-cylinder that the new E200s are fitted with ?

Former Daventry-branded Dart 34589 has been stripped of branding and looks like it's had a repaint. It was working on the 1 in Northampton on Wednesday 19th March.

Then one wonders what's the added environmental advantage of shipping ad blue to a depot if it means extra carbon to transport the stuff.

No, none of those already re engined have been renumbered, as you'd expect as they are all still MAN chassis. So 22 remains the appropriate class.

There are two Darts still at work in Northampton: 34585 and 34589. Both are now listed as being in the reserve fleet, although these  things often change. Both have been repainted and look immaculate. On the subject of the Dennis Dart, it has to be remembered that the 36- and 37-series Stagecoach Enviro 20D have what can only be described as an updated Dart chassis, to the extent that the manufacturer's plate inside the door of the bus states 'Dart 4'. The biggest difference between previous ALX200- and Pointer-bodied Darts and the 36/37s is that the latter have Voith gearboxes instead of Allison, which personally I regret. I thought the Allison gearbox was the perfect automatic box for the stop/start work that urban buses do. The older AT545 that was fitted to 32- and 33-series Darts was apt to change up through all the gears too soon, which resulted in loss of pulling power unless you used the gear hold facility, but the more modern box on the 34- and 35-series is a dream. Apparently the change to Voith is all to do with better fuel consumption, but it's a safe bet that the Voith is a lot more expensive that the Allison, and it's probably heavier too. From a driver's point of view, I thought the 35-series (56-reg) Pointer Darts are about as good as an urban bus gets. The reason the Dart was so successful is that it is such a no-nonsense bus, respected by both drivers and engineers. It is reliable, has plenty of go and the power is there instantly but smoothly, which makes that vital difference when accelerating out onto a busy roundabout. It's no fun doing that with any modern bus with a Voith gearbox. There is always a delay, which can be infuriating to say the least, and then there is all the surging from the built-in retarder when you're trying to get a nice smooth stop. Progress, eh?

AN68  -  as far as I'm aware 22832 still has its MAN engine. It was 22835, which failed with engine damage in November that has been fitted with a Cummins unit.
