Stagecoach East vehicles to East Kent.
« on: November 28, 2014, 07:37:27 PM »
A large number of Stagecoach East vehicles are transferring down to Stagecoach East Kent. 20 Darts and 3 Tridents.

34433-44 / 34539-48 are the Darts. Interestingly, 34539-48 have 'GX04' registrations, so they will fit in well in the East Kent fleet - I'm told they were originally ordered for Stagecoach South, but at the last minute were delivered new to Peterborough. All of these have been delivered (in store), apart from 34543 and 34548, as they both need repairing before being sent down! I think some of them also need a repaint judging by the look of them. These Darts will sadly be replacing remaining B10Ms, a lot of the MANs, and remaining non-DDA Darts. It is not known yet where they will be distributed, but most depots will probably receive some of them.

The Tridents are President bodied 17691, 17693 and 18292. This bodywork will be new to East Kent, so will add some variety. Although, technically East Kent have had a President before, in the form of an accident damaged President from Uno which was used for spare parts only. I'm pleased that one of the Tridents, 18292, was new to Huntingdon & District, which should be interesting. These will most probably be replacing Olympians. It is not known yet exactly which depot they will operate from.

Point of order
18292 was never new to Huntingdon & Distrct. It was new to Cavalier Travel who took over Huntingdon & District.

At least two Darts, think it's 34539/40, have already been put into the paint shop at Dover.

Which vehicle is referred to as the Beast?  ;D I presume that means its a good vehicle. Hopefully better than the current Tridents at East Kent!

Also, is 18292 a highbridge? Hopefully it wont be an issue with the low trees down in East Kent.  ;D

East Kent, historically always bought highbridge buses.  Up until very recently they had a significant fleet of them so I suspect they are well able to cope.

18292 isn't particularly bad. Last time I had it (26's) it need a retrim of seats into current moquette.

About 18 mths to 2 yrs ago, it used to throw engine belts regularly. Also, to stop the engine, you had to go round the back & pull the cut-off button !!

Well it will fit in with most of the Olympians in East Kent which have a mismatch of old and new moquette!  ;D

In seriousness, they are likely to be fitted with the new moquette, as long-term transfers between Stagecoach companies usually result in retrimmed seats and repaints (to my knowledge).

Looking at the UK Bus Fleets website, 17691 and 17693 have been allocated to Thanet. Although I'm not sure that site can be 100% relied upon, but I shall wait and see.

Will be interesting to see if Dover receive one of these Tridents. As the only low-floor double-deckers Dover have are for the Canterbury Park & Ride (and so don't see service on anything else). Dover still has a relatively large amount of Olympians.

17693 was refurbished a good while ago with new seat moquette and received a repaint at the same time. Last time I saw 17691 it was still running around in what appeared to be its original coat of paint complete with rust stains between some of the panels!

Hopefully 17691 will be rectified before being put in service! East Kent do tend to have a smart fleet (with the odd exception). Even most of the Olympians in East Kent have had fairly recent repaints.

According to that UK Bus Fleets website, 18292 has been allocated to Herne Bay. But the Presidents will probably still move around before being officially allocated somewhere.

18292 is at Ashford.

It made its debut today, operating route 1 (Canterbury-Ashford), route 2 (Ashford-Tenterden) and a couple of Canterbury school routes.

Most it ever did while it was at Fenstanton, was to daily occupy the bus layby in Victoria Ave.

Indeed!  ;D  It would have been out for 12 hours today, with not much layover time either.

President 17691 is based at Herne Bay, and its first day in operation was yesterday (9th Dec), working route 36 (Herne Bay-Margate), a route which mostly sees Solos. 17692 has yet to see service.

Dart 34541 is at Dover, and was operating the 88A (Ramsgate-Dover) last Saturday. Exterior looks ok, but interior has worn seats and cigarette burns.

Presumably he means 17693, seeing as 17692 is somewhere up north  :)
