Fleet Buzz changes January 2015
« on: December 03, 2014, 07:24:20 PM »
It appears that the time has now come that the demise of the Fleet Buzz name has started in earnest.
All Fleet Buzz registrations (PH1029575) have now been cancelled (effective from 09 November) with services operated under the Stagecoach South licence (PH0005857).

There are a lot of changes coming up from 04 January, with the main changes below.
With no official literature out yet, I have gleaned this information from Traveline so there still could be other changes.

72 Reading - Fleet - Aldershot becomes Reading - Fleet - Farnborough
30 Basingstoke - Odiham - Fleet - Farnborough cancelled, replaced by 13 between Basingstoke and Odiham and 72 between Fleet and Farnborough, leaving the central section unserved again (as it was until about two years ago)
31 Farnborough - Frimley Park cancelled
41 and 42 Farnborough - Southwood and Ash cancelled
77 Fleet - Church Crookham cancelled, area still served by re-routed 72
82 Reading - Yateley - Farnborough unchanged

Service 11 became a Stagecoach service from 10 November

Interesting in relation to Norfolk Green.  How long will that last?  Did Fleet Buzz retain its own livery?  Same MD as Norfolk Green, I think.

The Fleet Buzz livery is still there, on about 2/3 of the vehicles based at Farnham, essentially all of those which were inherited, and a few solos and Darts which were transferred in after the takeover.

The big difference is that this has been caused by Hants CC removing pretty much all their funding to bus services in the Fleet area that has destroyed the Fleet Buzz network.  Fleet Buzz are down to about 4 routes only one of which really leaves the main local Stagecoach territory and their pvr has plummeted to a point where it would be difficult to justify a separate operation.  We may never know whether Stagecoach would have retained the brand if they had been able to keep a larger remaining network of routes.

Apparently, the Four Optare Versa were due to go Off-Lease, in any case, as the lease was up. According to the latest Stagecoach South Fleetlist, the allocation for Fleetbuzz at Crondall is NOW :- 2 Olympian D/Ds; 5 Dennis Darts plus a single Solo; with another Dart as Spare.

I read that, in some quarters Stagecoach are being wholely blamed for the run-down of Fleetbuzz services. But, as Dwarfer has stated, Hants County Council have played a big part in removing their funding of the network around Fleet. Not knowing the area all that much, but travelling through there a few times, I would say the motor car has played a very big part in taking people away from using the bus ? Unfortunately, when patronage drops on some of these services, there comes a point where it is not commercially viable, and a point where Councils can no longer justify funding an under-used service. Its a shame, but, as they say "That's how the cookie crumbles" these days. Its becoming a fact of life everywhere !

Another aspect the general public sometimes don't realise, is that when services, like this, don't get used & subsequently get withdrawn, it sometimes leads to driver redundancies, especially if the operating company has no other work for the drivers ! Its sometimes amazing to hear the reactions of some passengers. Things like an elderly lady saying she uses it - but when you're the regular driver - you only see her once a week !! Unfortunately, passengers don't really realise that it needs about 20 people per journey, for the journey just to cover its costs, so with one passenger its running a very serious loss !!

I see that from 30/8/15, the 72 disappeared into new Stagecoach routes 7 and 10.

Is the Crondall base still open ?

Hi John,
It doesn't appear on the Fleet Allocation list any more ! However, a base has been set up at Guildford, which may(?) have taken Crondalls work over, along with some of the Aldershot duties..

The Guildford area base has taken over the Guildford area routes (Park & Rides & Godalming area routes), I think replacing the outstation at Haslemere.  Crondall is the opposite side of Aldershot.

To follow on from Dwarfers comments, The Guildford Depot (actually in Peasmarsh south of Guildford, near Farncombe) opened the same day as Crondall closed, all of Crondalls routes (what was left of them after Hampshire funding was cut), moved to the main depot at Aldershot.
Crondall is Northwest of Farnham but only about 3/4 miles as the 'Crow flies' from Aldershot.
All the ex Fleetbuzz vehicles have been repainted in std Stagecoach colours and some have been sold/transferred out.
