Richmond's Coaches Happenings 2015
« on: January 12, 2015, 05:26:08 PM »
To kick the year off Optare Solo YJ05XMY was noted this morning on the A505 having been repainted into all-over white complete with Waitrose fleet names. Does anyone have any information about what contract this is and where, evidently Richmonds have found a new use for it since loosing the tendered work around Royston!

Apologies!

It seems the TX in question is indeed Beestons BO13BYM. (In my defence I did see it in the dark while driving in the other direction!) Presumably this is on loan replacing Richmonds own decker, 559ABX which had a RTC with a car earlier in the month at the Chrishall/Fowlmere crossroads on the A505.

Appears I was half right! If this photo is anything to go by it appears Richmonds have acquired it.

Richmonds Solo YJ 05 XMY. The Waitrose Superstore and adjacent car park in Saffron Walden are closed for refurbishment until August. Meanwhile a smaller store is opening and a shuttle bus service provided from the principle Swan Meadow car park. This service is contracted to Richmonds.

The Solo SR is working 16's around Royston today, while the 'tea room' at Roysia Surgery was something a bit bigger than the usual Baby Bova! Apologies for the upside down photo, it appears the "iPhone photo orientation curse" has struck again!

Got the cranes out...

The downloaded photo displayed with correct orientation on my iMac.

I tried re-uploading it: same problem.

I removed the attachment from my post, rotated the image through 360ยบ, re-uploaded... Hey presto!

As the original was taken and posted from an iPhone/iPad, Adam, I'll issue technical advice on how to outwit the glitch.

(When I've got back from DIY shop.)

Richmonds appear to have at least three coaches on hire at the moment. Firstly Panther YN10FLD has returned, still in Weardale livery but with Richmonds fleetnames in red. The other two are VanHool tri-axles, one 09 plate and YJ11XOO (I think) which appears to be an interdeck. Both are in white with gold fleetnames.

Another VanHool TX with a registration I haven't seen before has appeared, but I'm not sure if its YJ14CDN re-registered or not!

A slight surprise this morning was the appearance of an all-over white MCV single decker, with a YJ62 xxx registration heading along the A505 to work the Waitrose shuttle, according to its destination display.

Richmond's have taken over routes 90/91  from Centrebus from Monday 17 August, two weeks in advance of the formal contract date.  The bus noted is YJ62 JXG   VDL SB180/ MCV Evolution B34F.  As route 386 is taken over in two weeks, I suspect it is really for that, and maybe one or two more buses will be needed.

Can locals please advise if all three Solos  are still around?  YJ05XMY, MX09AON, YD63UZA are the ones I have  got listed
Thanks

All three Solos are still around as of last Friday, MX09AON being allocated to the Royston town service although YD63UZA normally covers for it about twice a month from observations. The 05 plate is normally on the Waitrose contract, so unless that ends I imagine some more acquisitions are on the cards.
