NEW DATE for Uno &
« on: July 01, 2016, 12:59:34 PM »
TO AVOID A CLASH WITH "THE LONDONER LIVE" THIS HAS BEEN MOVED ONE WEEK AHEAD OF TIME. BOOKINGS TAKEN  NOW FOR THE NEW DATE. THOSE WHO ALREADY BOOKED HAVE ALREADY BEEN SPOKEN TO.

Hertfordshire day out in July

SATURDAY 30th JULY 2016; HERTS DOUBLE VISIT TO UNO HATFIELD, AND EAST HERTS MINATURE RAILWAY

The third of our 2016 visits will happen on the above date, and will include two visits, about ten miles apart.  The first will be to Uno (Universitybus Ltd)’s modern depot at Hatfield Business Park. The trip will start from the recently redeveloped Hatfield railway station, which is served by Great Northern trains, and many bus services. Please meet promptly in plenty of time for leaving at 10.00, with the first bus then leaving and loaded at 10.05.

We will make a short journey on uno Service 607 to a point adjacent to the garage. We will have a visit of about 60-75 minutes, depending on road conditions and the like.

After this, we will depart in time for the 12.51 uno Service 341, which will go to Hatfield, then via a few villages before arriving in Hertford Bus Station by 13.38.

We will have a short stop in Hertford Bus Station for a quick lunch or bite to eat, before we head further east on GreenLine 724 by Arriva (Explorer and ENCTS accepted) to
East Herts Miniature Railway Society, who are based at Great Amwell’s Van Hage Garden Centre. This is roughly half-way between Hertford and Harlow.

Established for over 35 years, the railway is a 71/4” Gauge independent Miniature Railway located in the Hertfordshire countryside. Their operation is run entirely by volunteer-based enthusiasts who give up their free time to run and maintain the railway. After defraying the cost of running the railway, they make regular donations to nominated charities and local organisations. There are a mix of diesel and steam trains running, most of the time.

Typically, from buying your ticket, boarding, your train ride and disembarking is around 10 minutes. During busy periods, this may be slightly longer

After the visit to the railway, connections run back on the 724 every hour (about 57 past towards Hatfield and Watford, about 22 past towards Harlow). Service 310 runs about every 15-20 minutes in both directions to Waltham Cross or Hertford, and Service 351 provides buses every two hours to Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford.

If the weather is not suitable, Plan B will be to do a journey around Herts – on the 310 to Waltham Cross, 242 to Potters Bar, and 610 back to Hatfield.

As we are using public transport, there is no cost for the actual visit. You merely pay your own costs. All the journeys and connections below accept the ENCTS concession scheme. They also sell and accept the Intalink Explorer multi-operator tickets, at £8.50 for one, or £14 for a group of four. The railway journey is £1 per passenger, pad cash only on the day.
