1961 Express coach services
« on: August 24, 2009, 07:52:05 PM »
Just before the thread on National Express 'disappeared' I posted a couple of maps
showing the express services as per the 1961 timetable. A couple that covered most of the country
and one for Eastern Counties.

If anyone did not get to view them and is interested I will post them again. Please advise.

I'm always interested in details and reminiscences of coach services.

Attached are the orignal ones I posted. As previously explained they are still glued in the back of
the publication and a little delicate so odd bits may be missing as it was a bit difficult to scan.

Some of the operators had their individual maps included in the timetable and as an example
I included Eastern Counties. Obviously I cannot scan the whole book but if anyone is
interested in a particular operator eg Royal Blue,Trent,East Yorkshire, etc then I can attempt to scan
them.

Ah! ABC Bus and coach guides.  One of my previous roles involved updating ABC guides with details of the Green-Line network. Unfortunately the network was in decline by that time and it was mainly advising which routes had been either reduced or withdrawn.

Hello,

Thanks for the offer, how about anything you might have for the Bristol Omnibus Company?

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

Bob

It was around this time that some schoolfriends and I did a marathon day out on Bristol Omnibus:-

Cheltenham - Oxford
Oxford - Swindon
Swindon - Salisbury
Salisbury - Bath
Bath - Bristol
Bristol - Cheltenham

A journey of around 220 miles. It would have been impossible to do this journey by 1966, when Bristol Omnibus withdrew the Cheltenham - Oxford service.

That reads as though it was a good day out indeed!.

How about a marathon week? - the following came into my possession a couple of
years ago together with photographs of the coaches used.
