Whippet driver ignors road block
« on: April 02, 2019, 08:37:52 PM »
The driver of Whippet 'Puppy' MX12CFD has been filmed driving through a closed road in Elsworth https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/antisocial-drivers-mount-pavement-bypass-16067190
No exactly the sort of behavior one would expect from a  professional driver, is it.

No exactly the sort of behavior one would expect from a  professional driver, is it.

Quote from: Charlie Hamilton, MD, Whippet
Managing director Charlie Hamilton said: "Whilst on first glance it does not look like the driver made the correct decision we would need to look into this and see what has happened.

"It may well be a case that if the driver had not done what he had done, the village may not have had a bus service that day, and as the 8 is a vital service to the community, the driver may have felt that he was doing the best thing for the community we work for.

"Public transport is so often a critical lifeline for the passengers that use it, and without it the implications could have been worse: missed doctor’s appointments, no shopping for food, no social interaction or clubs."

TCD813? The reg of a Southdown Motor Services, Northern Counties bodied, Leyland Titan PD3/4 FH39/30F (popularly dubbed 'Queen Mary') from the late 50s.

Not really, as its a complete disregard of the law by a 'professional driver' The fact is that it could have caused a serous accident if say a trench collapsed due to weight of the bus maybe killing or injuring workmen, and also putting pedestrians using the footpath, and bus passengers at risk. Charlie Hamilton's comments are totally irresponsible as there would have been a public notification by Cambs County Council of the impending road closure some weeks previous and therefore Mr Hamilton should have been aware of this and put in place an alternative route or service. Road Closure means Closure!!
