Ipswich - Peterborough is still completely cancelled and the Sheringham line reduced to 2 hourly terminating at Cromer. I think the later is because the issue with the new trains and the Sheringham line level crossings is still not resolved so they have to approach slowly in case of a wrong side failure of the crossing. The 755s started operating to Stansted today. They change from diesel to electric in the platform at Ely southbound and change back to diesel northbound at Ely.
Are they actually changing to Electric at Ely, the plan is for them to do so but so far they havent
The ones I have seen - and today travelled on - change power at Ely. The drivers change at Cambridge. (I thought that was going to be Ely but it is not happening yet). The guard comes off at Cambridge too.
They are going through Shelford on diesel power despite the line being electrified!!
And through Dimmocks Cote crossing (south of Ely). Something has changed.
Apparently there was an issue with one recently where the pantograph didn't drop correctly on the switch over from electric to diesel and the pantograph then struck an overline obstacle (& then a bridge after it had been damaged and pushed upwards) so they are all running only on diesel until they can work out what went wrong.
If the guard gets off at Cambridge then I am guessing its DOO for the rest of the journey which means it changes to a penalty fare situation after departing Cambridge thenI did see one yesterday evening leave platform 4 heading towards stansted
Not sure if this has been noted previously since the posts in December, but I noticed a 755 pass through north of Cambridge heading Southbound, pantograph up. Presumably they are now changing to electric at Ely as intended.
Strange move as the 755 should be on the Norwich to Liverpool St service, its the 745s that are on Norwich to Cambridge
755's are also operating between Stansted Airport and Cambridge on the Liverpool St. line. Sometimes in electric mode and sometimes diesel (with pantograph down)
These might be the units that were stored next to the shed at Cambridge. They were hauled to Crown Point - I assume for commissioning.
