National Express Happenings 2020
« on: January 01, 2020, 09:36:50 PM »
The National Express stop for the 481 is moving in Ipswich to Tower Ramparts outside The Cricketers from 10 February.  I assume the 250 will move at the same time.  There don't seem to any significant changes to timetable.

I always thought the current stop (defined as 'Cardinal Park, Quadling Street, near McDonalds') a bit of a curiosity. There must have been some reason for the choice  because, as far as I know, the only other buses serving Cardinal Park operate on Sundays and weekday evenings. The reason for the latter being that Cardinal Park is primarily a leisure area with a Cineworld cinema and various food outlets/restaurants.

The new pick-up will at least make it easier for passengers to interchange from bus to coach services.

Four photographs of a Galloway Caetano Levante at Cardinal Park in May 2015 may be seen via this link:

And I should have noticed that an additional stop has been added at Copdock, Tesco forecourt.

National Express used to have their own stop at the Old Cattle Market bus station, but they switched to using Cardinal Park several years ago, certainly by 2015 they had moved.

As I understood it, reasons given at the time were a mixture of congestion in central Ipswich delaying services and better interchange with the Railway Station?

The new timetables for the 250, 707, 737 and 777 are now on the coach guide web page https://www.nxagents.com/theguide/.

In summary, most 777 run from Stansted non-stop to Leicester and then to Birmingham via the Coventry and Birmingham Airport.  There is an extra journey in each direct via Cambridge - non-stop from Coventry to Cambridge which makes for a good day trip service to Coventry, NEC and Birmingham.
The 737 picks up the 777 route from Stansted via Standon, Stevenage, Hitchin, Luton and Luton Ariport, Milton Keynes to Oxford.  I think, Hemel Hempsted and High Wycombe lose a Stansted service.

The Hatfield stop on the 737 is transferred to the 250 which no longer serves terminal 4 at Heathrow.

The 707 starts back from Birmingham (previously Northampton) and seems to pick up the Birmingham to Milton Keynes stops of the 777.

In addition but not yet on the coach guide pages, the 010 loses another 2 round trips per day from 30 March.  One service in each direction serves Stansted Airport and one service Saturdays and Sundays only serves IWM Duxford.  The timetable is here. https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/lsp/58496e85/user_uploads/010-498-timetable.pdf

I'd been hoping the new A14 might have given NX encouragement to run a few Stansted to further away services via Cambridge :(

Noticed this morning that service 350 to Manchester was being operated
by Woods of Leicester. How long have they been doing this? I do realise they are
part of Nat Exp group. I thought Johnsons and Skills/Silverdale did this or
am I behind the times?

Woods took over from Johnsons from 11 November last year.  The timetable was amended then so the journey that previously started at Nottingham, I think, now starts from Leicester (0520/0550  to Liverpool).  Woods operate all the 350 and the middle of the night journeys on the 349.  The daytime return journey on the 349 remains with Skills.

Johnsons were not the tidiest of NX operators.  The coach was frequently unbranded with no working destination equipment and a driver who was not wearing uniform.  As far as I know, they always turned up which is more than can be said of Whippet at times.

None of these changes are on the Coach Guide pages yet.  Only the 010/498 timetable is available - courtesy of TfL.  Another service reduction as mentioned previously.
