Stagecoach in Bedford happenings 2020
« on: January 04, 2020, 11:44:51 AM »
Finally got to go on one of the MMCs on the X5 yesterday! Was shocked to see the grey seats looking quite dirty already, but other than that they do look so smart and I think I they'd be more than appropriate as a replacement for the elites on the Bedford-Cambridge stretch of the X5 when the time comes! I'm still shocked that none of Enviro 300s have strayed onto the x5 whilst work is taking place on the elites

Peterborough's Enviro 200 trainer 36011 (AE07KYS) is at Bedford now repainted all over yellow. 36310 (LX58BZY) is also at Bedford.
Look out for Enviro 200 MMC 37432 (SN16OPW) when it returns from repaint at Chesterfield. This might not come back in swoops so I'm told

10052/54/55 will also be refurbished. This was always the plan for their transfer to Bedford

27647 spotted plodding full tilt up the M1 in the inside lane at about 50mph on the 99 this morning (0655 departure from Luton Airport). Whilst they do at least try and ensure the 99 runs, the reliability is not helped by them putting vehicles on it that are incapable of keeping to the timetable.

If the tracker on bustimes.org website is to be believed. Enviro 200's 36936/37 (SN63KFR/T) and Enviro 200 MMC 37435 (SN16ORC) were all on the X5 today. Can anyone confirm this?

That's probably it. At least the MMC has comfy seats and power sockets

My bus into town this morning was freshly repainted Enviro MMC 37432 (SN16OPW). It's probably the last vehicle from the depot to be painted in the old Stagecoach livery. Just 37434/37 (SN16OPZ/ORG) left in debranded coast hopper livery now.

Enviro 200 36045 (AE08NVV) is due in the paint shop soon if not already to lose cancer research livery.

Volvo B9R 53612 (KX58NCE) could become the first of these to get withdrawn. It has an engine fault and might not be worth repairing given it's age. Its been dumped in the yard for a while now. Trident 18417 (AE06GZO) had a similar issue last year and that was sent for scrap.

I will be very interested to see if anything will be ordered new or cascaded to replace the B9R's when Stagecoach release their orders. Although the remaining 9 Darts are surely next to go

On loan from Cambridge as 4 out of 6 Volvo B9R's are currently off the road. They're showing their age and mileage now. 53612 might not see the road again because of a major engine fault.
19583 (AE10BWU) is also on loan and on the 9 today

Nice to see double deck 15667 on W7 parked up in River St. 37063 and 37064 also on W7. On Tuesday 28625 was on the W7 one I don't normally see here.

54612 died at Madingley westbound just now. 11279 behind now at the standing limit and another ten left behind, and that after an hours gap from a previous failure

The next one is an AE60... so will soak up the crowd, but not a comfortable ride for many! Just scrap these wretched volvos now!

Let's hope there's some new coaches for Bedford in this years order as well as some Dart replacements for Bedford, Fenstanton and Peterborough

I can't help thinking that with MKC - Oxford rail going live in the next few years, the decision on the next batch of coaches will be put off for a while until changing passenger habits are assessed and the X5's longer term future is decided.

That won't open until 2023 at the earliest. If it ever does. The X5 coaches do very high mileage. They usually get replaced every 5 to 6 years which would be this years order if things follow the same pattern. Double deckers are definitely required with the loadings as they are at the moment

Whilst stuck on 48032 on the 6, which eluded me all last year, a handful of people are enjoying 18410 which passed me on a W7. First trident I have seen on Wellingborough rail.
