On my return from the valleys it was back to doing my food shop. Bedford still a single deck town for me with 27644 on an 81 to town but at least I gleaned a winner as 22832 was on the 1136 50 leaving 5 late. 37235 on a 6 took me back for my stockpiling before heading home on 27855 on the 1215 81.

39683 was also on the 50 circuit whilst the X5 dropped 21363-365. 10676 was out on 9A/B but I am losing hope that 10880 and 10881 will ever darken our roads.

Enviro 400 MMC 10881 (YX67VDV) finally entered service in Bedford today and has been on the 905 all day.
One of Cambridge's Scania Enviro 400's is in the yard at Bedford freshly repainted into the green 'specialist' livery. it was too far away to identify from the bridge. Does anyone know if these are staying at Cambridge or just on loan from Fenstanton?

Today was not straight forward in getting my winners today once I knew 10881 was available. I assume 10880 has gone away to be battered or scrapped after it's disastrous debut run on the 2.

I did 19581 on a 9 into town and was greeted by the sight of 10881 parked up. 21307 was on the 1, 21363 on a 2 and 21364 on a 6. 37214 was on the 1245 6 and the tracker showed 37215 was on the 1300 6 so I got off 37214 at Tyne Crescent and waited for winner 37215 on the 1316 but it failed to show. So I ended up baking to death waiting for the 1331 6 with 19705. The tracker then revealed 37215 was switched to the 1304 2 so clearly that route is more important than the 6 as no bus was substituted albeit 19706 took on the missing diagram at some point.

My mood was not helped when winner 10881 sneaked out on the 1300 1 whilst I was stranded in Brickhill. I arrived back and four elites were parked up where there were none an hour earlier. The reason being that they played musical buses as 21307, 21363 and 21364 were removed from the town routes and put on the X5.

22832, 39688 and 11130 all appeared on the 50 but I was only interested in doing 10881 on the 1350 53. However the man in charge had other ideas and proclaimed that the bus was going to Sharnbrook for schools. There I was thinking Stagecoach dropped school work in Bedford so for the second time in 40 minutes I was bowled out with no vehicle. Unless they used one of the four elites parked up there were no alternative vehicles for the 1350. Cheers then. I went home on 19893 on the 1415 9b in a huff.

A little later the scene had changed with 10876 on 1's, 10881 had returned doing 5's and my chariot back into town on the 9 was 10875 as 19581 had been pinched for the 1. I finally caught up with winner 37215 on the 1644 2 to the hospital to intercept winner 37212 back on a 1.

The tracker showed 10881 was running 23 minutes late on its inbound 5 so I jumped on 37436 to intercept it. As fate would have it that old perennial problem of two buses in tandem blew me out. Unfortunately 27850 on a later 5 got in front of 10881 and pulled over as my winner sailed past. How many times has that happened to me in Bedford? So it was a case of follow that bus.

Fortunately we arrived at the bus station right behind 10881 so I was able to leg it around for it as it departed 13 late on the 1732 so third time lucky. I stayed on it to Goldington bailing at the stop nearest to where the 4 and 10 start from. I just made 37431 on the 1815 4 but even this didn't run smoothly. We entered St Peters Street at just the wrong moment as two road rats danced with each other blocking the whole width of the road. How two cars going in opposite directions could collide and finish at angles that nothing could get past was something to marvel at.

As I was the only one on board I bailed and walked to the bus station for 10875 home on the 1845 9. I didn't see 37431 arrive or the 7 and 905 behind us by the time the 9 departed. A farcical day for me had come to an end.

It would appear 21309 has fled Bedford as the tracker showed it earlier this week passing Eaton Socon with no route number. Curious to see 19704 allocated to Bedford as I thought it had gone.

On Saturday I did 10055 on a 9 into town to post a letter. On seeing 18108 on the 1136 50 I did that to Sainsburys and then walked back to intercept 21365 on the 1145 6 to Brickhill and back which made the minus onto 19705 on the 1215 9b. 18101 also appeared on 50's whilst 21307 and 21363 did 5's and 21364 was on 53's. Route 8 was treated to 37439.

I didn't bother going out today so missed out on 10877 on routes 2, 5, 6, 7 and 9. 19705 was on the 3, 4 and 10 circuits but as I had that months ago on all those routes I didn't bother. The gold 50 services were in the hands of 11130 and 11134.

Today I had 35181 on the 1136 50 which may have been a winner but until I return to the office I don't know. 37212 was my 6 back into town for 19698 on a 9b home. I then realised I had forgotten to do something so I used 10875 back to town and returned home on it on the 9a. Once again I was treated to another driver who seemed unsure how to drive it. We were 15 late by the time we left St Paul's, first by not being able to reverse out of the bus station and then not able to move away from the St Paul's stop.

In other news 18108 and 39692 appeared on 50's whilst 21363 and 21364 were seen on 2's and 21365 was on 5's.

It is noticeable now how busy the buses have got compared to two months ago. Perhaps people are getting out and about before Boris banishes us to stay indoors again...

There is an odd looking green decker sitting at the back of the garage.

Yesterday I had 10879 on a 9b into town and went home on 21364 on the 1315 81. Both 22832 and 39699 were on 50's. 21307 did the 1115 73 and 21363/365 were on 1/53 routes. Now these buses don't do the 99, 905 or X5, I don't understand why we still have them. Are Bedford holding them to ransom and why hasn't 19698, 705 and 706 cleared off?

Today my wheels into town was provided by 10876 on a 9. I had intended to do 35184 on the 1136 50 as I believe it to be a winner, but the tracker was lying to me as it was big numbered 35226. I did it anyway and regretted it at the Clapham Road bus stop as literally hundreds of daddy long legs swarmed around me like a plague of locusts. 37234 rescued me on a 6 picking up a fair few of the critters as the breeze wafted them on board. My bus home on the 2 was 21365.

21307 arrived on an 81, 21363 was out on the 1/53 with 21364 on 6's.

Bedford are keeping 19698/705/06 for the time being. The Volvo's should be off back to Fenstanton very soon. The green decker is one of Cambridge's Scania's in for repaint. I don't know which one it is

The green decker appears to be inside the garage now and the registration looks readable if you walk past the front.

My moves today involved 19581 on a 9b to town for a run on a 6 to Brickhill and back with 21363 before it goes. I did 19892 home on an 81. However, 19705 taken off 9's and sent to the garage so I did 10874 back to town as its replacement. This put me in position to do 21307 on a 1 to the hospital for 21365 back on a 2. My vehicle home came courtesy of 19888 on a 9b.

The unidentified bus way thing at the garage earlier has gone from view but as 21364 went to Flitwick on a 2 and all were accounted for I can only guess it was 21312 which is still showing at Bedford depot on the tracker.

Today I did 10878 on a 9b this afternoon for 37212 on a 6 to intercept 35219 on the 1350 50 running 15 late which I have not had this year so could be a winner. Also on the 50 today were 18101, 39683 and 39684. Route 2 was treated to 21363-65.

My treat to get home came courtesy of 10876 on an 81 to Silsoe duplicating 27645 on the 1615 81. The issue was that the driver couldn't get Silsoe on the screen so had Luton showing. This caused the normals a fair bit of confusion as we left 3 minutes before the scheduled service which was late. People were perplexed to be rejected for shacks beyond Silsoe with Luton displayed.

I wish they did duplicates in the days of olys but I have to wonder how this new initiative will work in the coming months if we lose some deckers and the bus way greens. We surely won't have enough buses to duplicate some busy journeys.

I noticed 10876 has a poster advertising the X12 to Skegness with the bold claim 2020 is the year for staycations. Yeah right, more like the year for lock downs and restrictions on movement.

I passed by the depot today to see if anything interesting was there and found that the remaining 3 Darts 34827/28/30 (KX06JYJ/K/N) have now disappeared. I can only presume they've joined their sisters in Rugby.
Enviro 200 MMC37434 (SN16OPZ) hasn't been tracking since 14th September but was in service on the 3 today. Hopefully this one and 37437 (SN16ORG) will both get a repaint out of tatty de branded coast hopper livery soon. I think Stagecoach East is the only Stagecoach company without a vehicle in 'local' livery now

34536 (GX04EYK) is also around now. These are part of the Stagecoach east reserve fleet. It's very strange that the 06 plate Darts from Bedford and Peterborough have been transferred to Stagecoach Midlands and Oxfordshire and these still remain with East.
AE56LUJ mentioned on the Peterborough thread that Enviro 200's 37210/11 (SN64OKH/J) were also in Bedford. But didn't see them after spending an hour around the bus station earlier today.

The only logical explanation for the Darts being in use to me would be to cover for the Solo's being on loan to London

Yesterday I did 39688 and 39689 on 50's but of more interest was the tracker showing 37210, 37211 and 34536 on the garage. I know for a fact the Dart was present as it passed me at Rope Walk roundabout. Are we short of buses again to run duplicates?

Today I did 19581 on a 9b into town for 39685 on a 50. My bus home was 10875 on the 1415 73. There appeared to be four bus way vehicles lined up so whether that meant they were about to leave us I don't know. 21365 was out in service on a 2 and 35185 did the 1541 50. 37038, 37040, 37061 and 28627 appeared for the W7.

37210 and 37211 were still in Peterborough on the 20th September when I photographed them,
so they obviously get about a bit!

21307 is still loitering around Bedford at least for the time being. How come we are suddenly so short in Bedford when the PVR is still reduced as we aren’t back at pre-covid levels yet?

Another day and one with three winners for me today. Things are getting more difficult as half the buses were invisible on the tracker or showing in odd locations like 34535 being parked at Elstow Park and ride and 37211 abandoned in Biggleswade, neither vehicle moving as the hours passed by.

My moves involved 19587 on a 9b to town for 10879 on a 1 to the hospital for 21363 back on a 2. Next up was winner 35182 on the 1336 50 which I jumped off to intercept 10875 back on a 51. Then it was winner 37210 on a 6 for 37235 to meet up with 39692 which I did on an inbound 50.

My third winner was 34536 on the 1615 duplicate 81 to Silsoe running a good 10 minutes in front of 10875 on the booked 1615 to Luton. Once again the Dart displayed Luton on the screen instead of Silsoe to confuse the normals.

21365 was still out on 2's and 21307 got bored parked up and took over an X5 to Oxford. 19890 did the 830 school turn and 19705 was on a 53a.

It looks like 21364 has left and the remaining bus way vehicles seem to be doing little now. Having said that it is clear the bus times tracker seems to have lost most of Bedford's allocation as only 10 showing up on the map making it hard to judge where to get off for the bus going the other way.

Yesterday I did 10879 on the 1224 2 to the hospital but the tracker failed to show the 1225 from the park and ride. By 1246 I gave up on it appearing so did 19581 on a 53. I wasn't best pleased when 19581 did the 1315 9a home as that is not the diagram for a 53 to go onto a 9a. The bus way single decks had found a new home on the 2 so I hope their departure does not see a return to the bad habits of journeys being missed out.

Today was better with two winners for me. I did 19706 on a 9b into town for first winner 37211 on a 5 to Putnoe for 27643 back. Then I went to Brickhill and back on winner 34535 on the 6 before going home on 19578 on the 9. 39692 was on the 1336 50 and 21365 was parked at the bus station with the others sitting on the garage.

Although our buses were largely invisible on the tracker, at least visitors 37048 and 27683 on the W7 did appear in Bedford on the map.

The tracker is even worse today. Northampton and Kettering swamped with buses but only a handful visible on the Bedford map. Have our drivers put spanners in the ticket machines so they can't be tracked? One vehicle that was showing was 10875 which did a 4, 10, 7, 4, 10, 3 and 7. Sadly I had a meeting to go to so I only saw it arrive on a 3 and leave on a 7 just before the meeting. I have not had any of the recent arrivals on any of those routes and I was blown when it swapped onto 5's after the meeting which was no good to me.

I did 36935 into town on a 3 noting 36937 on a 41. Two of the green machines were out so I did 21365 on a 2 to the park and ride for 21363 back. A strange appearance at the park and ride was made by 27645 blinded as a 2 but not going to Flitwick or the town. When it departed with patrons on board it followed 5 minutes behind the 1244 2 towards the retail park. I assume that is why a Dart was showing up there all day last week. Looked like it was doing some sort of shuttle.

I went home on 37215 on the 1645 9 with a crowd turned away. Not the ideal bus on a half hourly route with school kids in abundance. In contrast the 1615 81 to Luton was 19891 and 19581. The duplicate was virtually empty so it would have been better to have 37215 on the duplicate and an E400 on the Shortstown's.

I believe the 2 is on diversion at the moment, so there's a shuttle from the P&R to Interchange Park.

This is what the two reserve Darts are mainly for

I spent the day in Essex and London on Friday and made the 2215 last 9 home which was 36937, been a while since I last had that. The tracker showed 21363 was on its old haunt the 99's.

This afternoon I did 19698 on a 9b into town for repaired winner 10880 on a 1. So I did it to Kempston for 19578 back. I had hoped to do 10876 which had been out but it got ripped off the 5 for a dingle deck so I went home on an 81 courtesy of 27643.

A visit to town today produced 19587 on an 81 where I did 10880 again on a 2 to the hospital for 10877 back and 34536 home on the 1215 81. Later in the afternoon I ventured out again to get more use out of my ticket on 19889 on a 9b. 39699 was on the 1714 50 which I did to Sainsburys and walked up to intercept 10880 on the 1715 6. I did this to Brickhill and back to Clapham Road as a trident was heading for Bedford. Both 37043 and 37055 were on the W7.

I noticed that traffic cones had been placed between the lanes outside the Sainsburys bus stop which was showing the next bus at 1802. There was no notice that the bus stop was closed and I assumed the 50 would come along the inside lane. However, it didn't and 18101 sailed past me with the other traffic. Fortunately the very kind lady driver pulled over at the school bus stop and walked back to greet me as I legged it past the roundabout. Nice to see considerate drivers in Kettering. This meant I made 34536 home on the 1815 73.

It looks like the 1615 81 duplicate has been abandoned with lack of use as 19587 appeared to be alone. Instead, 19893 did a 1615 9 duplicate to Shortstown but I chose to go home on 10877 on the 1615 9a. 10879 was also out on the 1515 9a and 10874 did an 830 whilst 27521 was on an 828.

39683 and 22832 were on 50's and common for the W7, 37071, was parked in River Street.

Would any of our Bedford correspondents know if there is still an Optare Solo SR parked up at the depot. My understanding is that 48023 was sent (after the others) to London as a replacement for failed 48036. I am trying to confirm if either 48023 or 48036 iparked up at the depot or if both of them could be in London?

Sorry I don't know if there are any solos parked up. Nothing visible from London Road but I have not been down Rope Walk where the whole rear of the garage is visible. The last time I saw a solo was when I had 47414 on a 50 at the beginning of August.

Yesterday I did 21363 on a 9a into town for 10874 on a 1 to the hospital for 19893 back. I went home on 10055 on a 9a. 10878 had been out on the 1/53 before going onto the 905. 27850 was on the 828 and 19705 on the 830 schools.

Today I did 11279 on a 9 for 19706 on a 1 to the hospital for 10879 back. 21363 is showing as being on the 99 and 10880 on the 830. The xx15 1 has been solid MMC all week.

It is a source of frustration that if you miss a 9 you have to wait half an hour for the next one which is not good when the schools chuck out. Crowd control meant it took nearly 10 minutes to load up 19698 on the 1515 9a. It was so rammed I did 37438 on a 2 and walked home. If I miss the xx45 departure and have 30 minutes to wait, it is silly that I have a choice of a 9a, 73 or 81 home which all leave at xx15. Why can't one of them leave at xx00 to space them out and plug that 30 minutes hole?
