An email received from NATIONAL EXPRESS

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Changes to our timetables from 24 March

As a valued customer of National Express, I am writing to update you on our response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The welfare of our customers and employees is always our top priority and that is why we are doing everything we sensibly can to keep you all safe when travelling with us.

The majority of our services are currently running as normal. However, following Government advice, as of Tuesday 24 March there will be an extensive reduction to our timetables.

Please ensure that you check our website before travelling for the latest service updates.

Booked travel before 31 May 2020

If you no longer wish to travel as planned, we will honour a free ticket amendment to travel any time in the next 12 months. There is no need to contact us straightaway, just complete our ticket amendment form before your original outward journey.

If your journey is cancelled by us

If you do not wish to amend your ticket to another date, we will fully refund you. Please complete our refund form and we will process your refund within 14 days.

Travelling in the next few days

If you are planning to travel with us we have, as you would expect, taken additional steps to keep you safe, including enhanced cleaning of vehicles, ticket vending machines and other customer touch points at our stations. We are also monitoring updates from the Government and UK public health authorities to ensure any additional safety measures are introduced.

If you are travelling in the next 72 hours and wish to speak to a member of our team please call us on 03717 81 81 81. Our lines are open 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week. Please be advised that our customer service team is currently experiencing a high number of calls.

We know this is an uncertain time for everyone. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely and are regularly updating our website as this situation develops. Please check our website for the most up to date information.

Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

Having had the opportunity to take a closer look at what the temporary timetables look like from today on National Express, it appears that the pattern of services in East Anglia has a basic format along the lines of what services have been operated on such as Boxing Day or New Year’s Day (and numbered in the 800 series). The direct services from Norwich and Cambridge to Heathrow and Gatwick are not running. Searches for those journeys are routed via Victoria with a change to services bound for the South West/Wales (with additional journeys offered using the Stagecoach X5 service to Milton Keynes connecting to other services from there).

The two remaining National Express services linking East Anglia and Victoria are:

Service 813 : Great Yarmouth-Norwich-Thetford-Newmarket-Cambridge-Stansted Airport-Stratford-London (Victoria Coach Station). There are two departures from Great Yarmouth and three from Norwich all via Cambridge. The northbound services have three to Norwich and two to Great Yarmouth.

Service 816 : Ipswich-Colchester- Stansted Airport-Stratford-London (Victoria Coach Station). Two departures each way.
There are no other intermediate points served

The list of temporary timetables can be seen here:
https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/help/live-service-updates

Incidentally, the Norwich-Stratford (East London) Megabus service seems to have the same set timetable every day with just three departures each way. Normally the actual timings (and sometimes the number of departures) differ on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from other days.

Regarding service 813, it appears that the three required vehicles are covered by the following operators:

0620 Great Yarmouth-Victoria (1055)/1200 Victoria-Great Yarmouth (1630) : Ambassador Travel (Levante 215 (BV19 XPU) on 27 March)

1050 Great Yarmouth-Victoria (1525)/1630 Victoria-Great Yarmouth (2055) : Whippet Coaches NX28 (BV67 JZN on 26 March)

0930 Victoria-Norwich (1320)/1530 Norwich-Victoria (1925) : National Express (Travel West Midlands) (SH281 (BV19 XON) on both 25/26 March)
