Second day of the revised 114 service. Enviro 200 MX62AWG drops off a disabled passenger at the Beehive centre. Timing seem to be ok today with bus keeping to time throughout journey, but traffic was light in Cambridge today

Arriving at Addenbrookes

At Great Shelford on the 31 to Fowlmere

Idly passing a little time, I just though that this might make an amusing bus rear panel. (I think I saw one somewhere, but did a search online to no avail.) Then I wondered who might be quirky enough to display it...

NB: this is not a photo.  ;)

I rather like that one Richard.

I’m sure that there must be many anecdotes based on the ‘No passengers are left on this vehicle overnight’ theme. This is almost one of them.

Circa 2006 Burtons Coaches had the Cambridgeshire County Council contract to operate the Sunday service 19 between Cambridge and Wisbech using vehicles based at the Bury St. Edmunds outstation.

A colleague had performed the last service down from Wisbech and duly returned empty to Bury St. Edmunds. Having just parked up in the darkness a hand touched his shoulder and a sleepy eyed male asked ‘Where are we?’. Had he slept a little while longer it may have taken the passenger some time to work that one out!

The building in the background of the photograph of Optare Solo KX51 CTE has an interesting past.

Whilst it might not seem apparent the whole backcloth is the Morrisons Supermarket. The portion behind the rear of the bus (with five upper storey windows, balcony and cupola) was built in the late 1990s. It blends in with the portions to the right which are now a façade having been an early 20th Century building. The portion on the extreme right was the town’s original police station/magistrates court. Here is a link to a fascinating old photograph of the building in the early days before much else had been constructed:

Quite separately this is a link to another historical Letchworth bus photograph on ‘The Historic England Blog’ site. The 11th photo down the page is a 1924 view of a number of char-a-bancs standing outside the Spirella factory.

YJ60LRN Optare Solo acquired from Ensign 8/21 Looks like last operator was First Cymru https://www.flickr.com/photos/ksu461/47790387692/in/photolist-2fPNf4J-2fP5egA-2bZRqdY-Lc8EEm-24LdQEv-VkVUiK-VhWx7J-QNuyZq-H51jnq-uVe4sP-uDy3hk-fBpCMK-cUFJ27

This was previously owned by First Cymru, and The little Green bus prior too that. Most of its life was spent in wales.

A shame no logos or branding were applied to show that it wasn't a Stagecoach service, however - as its still in full Stagecoach "swoops". I wondered what it was at first, as the rear destination display was happily displaying "7" which hopefully didn't cause any confusion!

Did not see front display as it had passed me by, but assume it was showing the correct display for the route. Went back later to get a pic at same location (Mingle Lane Gt Shelford), but  it did not appear on the 13.25 from Addenbrookes, in fact I think after I saw the Solo which would have been running late at around 11.45 services were curtailed owing to grid lock caused by cars queuing for petrol in Stapleford. The Stagecoach 7 was also delayed.  A2B tweeted on Twitter delays of between 20 and 30 mins.

This statement from Brian Clifford MD of A2B  regarding KX51CTE
The reason it's still in stagecoach colours is that it's from the sales fleet we are currently disposing of a number of these solos on behalf of s/coach so it's not officially a fleet member all reference to the stagecoach name has been removed by stagecoach themselves before they release the vehicle and we just furthered covered it with some vinyl , it will be moving on soon to its new forever home.
