The E400's are not on loan from Cambridge. They're officially allocated to Peterborough and most of the E200's have been there since new . 19699-703 and 36934/36 were transferred in from Bedford.
Cambridge now has all the former busway Scania E400's from Fenstanton after service revisions meant far less guidewheel fitted vehicles were needed. Only 12 deckers are now allocated to Fenstanton.
Fenstanton also now has ex Peterborough Darts 34771/73 and E200's 37226-29/32
Bedford now has ex Cambridge, Fenstanton and Peterborough Darts 34535-38 and E200's 37210-12/14/15/30/31/34/35

Parked out of use at Bedford are E200's 36012/41-44/60-65

10013 is currently being used as the overflow vehicle for staff to aid social distancing for staff breaks.

Heard from a friend that Stagecoach in Peterborough were operating
rail replacement over the weekend with 10867, 10870 and 10873 in action.

Cannot remember the last time Peterborough did any RR.

Stagecoach Rail replacement work seems to be dependent on the management people in post at the time.  I think Cambridge has been doing some for several months. 

There is a big push for the rail companies to hire PSVAR compliant vehicles which rules out many of the cheaper operators.  In addition, there is a lot of rail replacement work around Peterborough at present which puts pressure on the usual operators with compliant vehicles. With reduced schedules, Peterborough may have drivers available to do the work.  Always an issue in normal times.
Are those vehicles fitted with tachos? Not that they would be necessary for Grantham or Huntingdon but probably for Stevenage although GN have been splitting journeys to get round the 50km limit on the Kings Lynn line so may be doing it for Peterborough - Stevenage.

It still operates today even though Abellio got the franchise, but I guess with the virus and local services cut back they have the drivers and buses to do the job themselves rather than hire a bus from another small time operator

Moving on to GN I did wonder why they run the service to Huntingdon then booted you off the bus to new one then did same again at Hitchin and so on rather than run straight through

See ex Norfolk Green 10052 at the bus station earlier, did notice the seats still got the original cloth on them, was led to believe from other posts that all 4 ex Norfolk Green E400s had got new Stagecoach branded cloth fitted whilst at Bedford

When they had any rail franchises, Stagecoach had a rail replacement unit which arranged rail replacement services for East Midlands and East Coast - possibly for West Coast and South West Trains as well.  They hired vehicles and employed the coordinators at stations - either directly or through agencies. All the railway operating groups have similar units - First Travel Solutions for First Group who do event work as well rail replacement, Abellio have a unit  based, I think, in York and there is a Go-Ahead unit.  Arriva had a unit based in Wales but that will have probably moved to Northern and may well be doing replacement for the current Northern Franchise. c2c work in a different way as they only have one franchise and no bus operations in the UK.

None of the these units are operators.  They hire in from the parent group bus operators some of which have rail replacement fleets as part of their bus subsidiaries.  The Stagecoach vehicles in the East Midlands were based in Lincoln (and possibly elsewhere) and operated on the East Midlands (bus) licence.  There is a Go-Ahead fleet as well - the commercial fleet - which is part of London General.  As far I know, neither Abellio nor Arriva had dedicated fleets anywhere.  Abellio use spare vehicles in their London fleet for GA work near London.

bustimes is reporting that 2 darts have now set up home back in Peterborough.

34771 & 34773 are the 2 to return from Bedford.


34771 was pressed straight into service on the 2/3 route today, whilst 34773 is yet to enter service. Be interesting to see if these are just to cover for absent vehicles or permanent members of the fleet.

Dart SLFs 34771 and 34773 have been moved from Fenstanton to Peterborough. Of these, 34771 entered traffic yesterday (28th January 2021) whilst 34773 has not seen use yet but we understand one of these was to act as a depot ‘canteen bus’. The pair are providing repaint cover for Peterborough depot, with the other East depots having a reduced peak vehicle requirement these were deemed spare at Fenstanton. On the other hand Peterborough depot’s only service reductions are a number of school services.

Now in passenger traffic, from Peterborough depot, is Dart SLF 34773. This transferred with similar 34771 last week.

36934 is back in Peterborough after a visit to the paint shop. It's the first of the Peterborough fleet to recieve the new livery.

I read yesterday that 37216 is the next Peterborough bus to recieve the new livery. It's apparently at Bedford paint store along with spare Stagecoach East vehicles 36306, 36308, 36320 & 36323.

37216 has been in Bedford for a while now. I've seen it with my own eyes. albeit in old livery. I haven't seen the ex London E200's as yet
