Another batch of Stagecoach changes:

https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/east/east-covid19-services

Busway / Cambridge
https://tiscon-maps-stagecoachbus.s3.amazonaws.com/Timetables/East/SERVICE%20CHANGE%20NOTICES/2021/Cambridge%20and%20Busway%20Changes%20Sunday%2029th%20August%202021.pdf

A - timetable shows return of Orchard Park stops, but given the situation with the 8 / 8H below this seems unlikely to happen from that date?

B - Reinstatement of pointlessly withdrawn early morning arrivals at Hinchingbrooke Hospital at times useful for workers (except Sundays, where first arrival is 3h15m after first departure).

C - Returns

V1, V3 - Will operate as through services to Cambridge... in the direction in which connections aren't so vital.

1 - Southbound Sunday services starts 30m earlier

2 - On M - Sa all buses serve Addenbrooke's via Sainsbury Coldham's Lane, giving 4 buses per hour daytime on that route.

8 / 8H - The 8H, which should never have existed, is replaced with a temporary 8 stop at the top of Arbury Rd, which I tried to suggest before it even started!

12 - Extra peak running time

904 - All journeys go through Houghton the same direction.

- School journeys return

Peterborough
https://tiscon-maps-stagecoachbus.s3.amazonaws.com/Timetables/East/SERVICE%20CHANGE%20NOTICES/2021/Peterborough%20Service%20Changes%2029th%20August.pdf

1 - minor timetable changes, Saturday service increased to every 12 mins
2, 3, 4 - minor timetable changes
5 - minor timetable changes, earlier first journey from Yaxley, short journeys start from Amazon (giving half hourly daytime service)
https://tiscon-maps-stagecoachbus.s3.amazonaws.com/Timetables/East/PETERBOROUGH/PE%20-%20CITI%205%20-%20AUG%202021.pdf

6 - minor timetable changes

Beds
https://tiscon-maps-stagecoachbus.s3.amazonaws.com/Timetables/East/SERVICE%20CHANGE%20NOTICES/2021/Aug%2030%20Service%20Change%20Booklet.pdf

9A, 9B - no longer services vaccination centre, slightly later evening journey from Hitchin benefits Arlesey
9C - new school service

53 - retimed, new stop

72, 73 - 73 becomes hourly service and will no longer serve Sandy station or Tesco.  The hourly 72 will serve Potton between Sandy and Biggleswade, and therefore arrive in Biggleswade from the east. Both services have a new route in Sandy that includes widening the loop around the north of Sandy to include the full length of Sunderland Rd.

I noted today that destination screens are being changed, some with the route number to the right of the display or to the left, which is correct or why are they being changed/swapped?
I was able to photographed on Green End Road this afternoon on the 2's both AE13 DZY and AE13 DZS within minuties of each other heading towards town

I believe DDA / PSVAR requires the route number to be on the right, although I couldn't tell you if that's a legal requirement or just "recommended"!

I think previously they all had the route number on the left, and are being swapped.

My understanding is that the regulations recommend 'best practice' which has the route number on the right but that it is not a legal requirement. Sc East started to move the number to the left but recent individual destination updates have it on the right again

I see that Enviro200s 37227/8/9 have turned up at Cambridge from Fenstanton. At least one of them was on Milton P&R yesterday alongside a Madingley Rd liveried E400!

Seems anything goes out on everything at the moment, the P&R fleet also seem to put in a regular appearance on X13 workings.

An item in ‘Coach and Bus Week’ magazine dated 5 October 2021 entitled ‘Stagecoach East’s X5 coach service to go double deck’ tells that ‘Ten ADL Enviro400MMCs (10872-81) from Peterborough have transferred to Bedford depot along with former Cambridge Park & Ride 10803 for the service’.

Indeed, and I was somewhat surprised to see 10803 in new all-yellow livery this morning. (Why does it immediately make me think of driver trainers?).

Is the downgrading of Milton P&R to single-decks permanent now?

There were double-deckers on the 1719 and 1729 Drummer St departures today (7 Oct). And double-deckers with Milton P&R branding, even! But I'm rarely in the city centre at this time of day, so can't say whether it's atypical.

https://cambridgeshirepeterborough-ca.gov.uk/news/ting-its-new-people-friendly-transport-service-for-the-western-part-of-huntingdonshire/

Cant see how these on demand services can work. ie you book a bus to go from A t B how can the driver get you to you destination at a given arrival time (important if you have an appointment to meet) surely the arrival time will depend upon how many other passengers are on the bus, and their required arrival times at their destinations. With a timetable service you know what time the bus should be at a given stop.

Instinctively it seems that they could only work if there were so few passengers that an on-demand service wouldn't be viable, or so many passengers that an on-demand service wouldn't be necessary (or alternatively, if they were operated more cheaply using smaller vehicles and, dare I say it, by Uber)!  And how do you know when to book the return journey for when you don't know if you're going to be taken straight to your destination in 10mins or given a 1 hour tour of rural west Hunts?

A lot of these services that are available to the general public and cover a wide area have started (I think the first one I remember was the Gaberlunzie in East Lothian, probably before 2000).  But have any lasted a significant period of time?  The only long running ones I can think of are ones for mobility impaired users or ones that cover a very tightly defined area.

I'm also confused that it appears all four buses serve the full area.  It seems that it might be more viable to operate if three busses were tied to smaller areas (broadly along road corridors perhaps?) and one was a spare for any exceptional demand?

Looks like the 8 is returning to Histon Road from Sunday 24 October according to article in the Ely Standard. The timetable - with no commentary - is here https://tiscon-maps-stagecoachbus.s3.amazonaws.com/Timetables/East/CAMBRIDGE/CA%20-%208%20-%2024%20OCT%2021.pdf

Yes, returning from 24 Oct. Ar present (well, as of Sunday afternoon, when I was last down there), one of the new inbound bus stops is completely inaccessible to pedestrians, and quite a bit of the east side of the road is blocked by cones for some of the length, reducing the width significantly. Although it would technically have been possible to run buses inbound right now, it would have been quite messy. Better to wait for it all to be finished - or made safe and accessible - perhaps? But I appreciate there are different opinions on this.

On the one hand it's true it's true the inbound direction is not quite ready.  But on the other hand it's in a better state than the outbound direction has been for most of the last two years, and in some cases (temporary stop over pedestrian crossing near Hazelwood Close) still is!
