Withdrawal of Centrebus 747 Leicester - Uppingham

Gosh, Centrebus 747 Leicester to Uppingham is to be withdrawn from January 8. That's Uppingham's principal bus service. Presumably something will replace it.

Sadly, at present there are no plans for a replacement service. However there is a campaign by local residents from villages along the route to save it, so presumably Leicestershire C.C. and Rutland C.C. will support a minimum service between Leicester and Uppingham.

There is a difference between no announcement and no plans, I know Rutland are looking at costs for various service level options to replace the 747 and whilst LCC don't appear to be planning to replace as such I know they have been talking to operators to see what minimum cost options there are from their end to cover as much as they can.  Whether either authority can afford to do anything in the end is another matter.

Happily the future of the 747 has been secured for the next year with Leicestershire & Rutland putting in funding to support the service for the next year whilst options are examined for the long term viability of the service.
