At least three (WCD, WCJ, WCP) were out in convoy, presumably driver-training, yesterday on the eastern end of the route.

One or two of the older coaches were seen today on the X5, possibly covering for NEW Elites with teething problems?

One problem I noticed yesterday with 54318 was as it sat at the Victoria Ave stop, it "developed" a problem with the front door as it tried to depart. The road there cambers quite a bit, so the body was leaning towards the kerb. Anyhow, the lady driver tried to close the door about a dozen times & every time as the door's rubber seal touched the door frame, it re-opened !! Now, this is a long-standing problem with these plug-doors....they need the body to be completely upright !! On some automatic gearbox coaches, without the door shutting completely, you cannot get the gears to move off ! So a gallant yours truly went to her aid, holding the door closed whilst the door securing mechanism worked & then she went merrily on her way, with a smile & a wave !

Most have it as standard these days, but it would be no use if the coach was leaning due to camber of the road. A ferry lift raises the suspension at ALL four corners, by inflating ALL airbags.

It would be OK if they raised nearside ONLY, then you'd get a level vehicle & door would shut properly.

Had a trip and took a few photographs of the new Elites today on the X5.

http://www.ipernity.com/doc/davidslater-spoddendale

There was quite a bit of late running this morning. We arrived at the Longsands Road stop in St. Neots at about 1033 for the 1043 and saw the tail end of what was the 1013 leaving the stop. The 1043 didn't arrive until about 1105. We arrived in Bedford at 1150 (should have arrived at 1119) and the coach should have departed at 1130 for Oxford. It was 54302 (YX64 WCE). I sympathised with the driver who had little opportunity to make up time. Thursday is market day in St Neots and there were a few old folks with shopping trolleys first of all going into town and then boarding in town for each stop through Eaton Socon etc. No sooner had we got motoring on the A1 when we had to queue to the Black Cat roundabout (A1/A421).

As we arrived in Bedford the 0930 ex Oxford was only seven minutes late (should have been in at 1146 but was 1153). We travelled back to St. Neots two hours later on 54301 (YX64 WCD). That coach arrived around 1352 did a driver changeover and left spot on time at 1356. At about 1405 we passed a westbound X5 on the Bedford side of Great Barford so that was on time.

Noted leaving Cambridge today, one of the NEW Elites had a rear advert vinyl for the X5. Didn't note the identity, but it made me check any others to see if they had been vinyled up as well......didn't see any........all had the usual filthy dirt-spattered rears !!

During the course of this week I noticed that the new coaches now carry rear end advertising.

It has been difficult to tell if any were carried since the coaches entered service because of winter road dirt.

The rear advert vinyls are of places of interest/towns etc en route. The coaches all entered service before any of these vinyls were affixed.

Seems to be some ongoing issues with the new X5 coaches.  The 536XX batch of coaches are appearing on the X5 on a daily basis - at least 3 of them today - resulting in the 99 being left with the one remaining old coach (52437) and/or buses.

Stagecoach East did tweet out something today (24/03/15) at 1050 about major delays on the X5 (up to an hour and a half)  due to roadworks on the A428 near Croxton, so its possible some of the old x5 coaches were filling gaps where others were running late...

Yes, long term road works near the Black Cat is screwing things up beyond the company's control.

Indeed, 19889 was the 17.40 CBG-OXF and it's damn uncomfortable using a laptop on the upper deck of a Trident!
